I'm seeking funding to fly to Europe to participate in three amazing opportunities. I've been awarded the Beisinghoff Printmaking Residency in Germany in July this year, the Australian Embassy in Berlin has agreed to host an exhibition of my prints and I've also been asked to present my work at the Impact 8 International Printmaking Conference in Scotland in August.

The Beisinghoff residency recognises my achievements in printmaking and provides me with four weeks living and working at Atelierhaus Beisinghoff in rural Germany.  I will be honing my skills in a technically complicated printmaking process involving the printing of multiple colours simultaneously on a single etching plate.  Atelierhaus Beisinghoff is renown for specialising in this technique and my residency there is a rare opportunity to learn these skills and bring them back to Australia to enrich our own printmaking community through workshops upon my return.

The Australian Embassy exhibition in Berlin is an exciting opportunity to show works that represent contemporary Australian art as well as the creative possibilities provided by cultural exchange residencies.  This is a significant opportunity for me to establish my professional artistic profile in one of the world's cutting edge artistic communities.

My presentation at the Impact 8 conference will showcase my work at a premier international arts conference.  This is a great professional opportunity for me but also for contemporary Australian printmaking. My academic poster presentation entitled "Exploring Our Feral Hearts: Non-Indigenous artists and the legacy of colonial violence in Australia" details the ideas behind my print series "Feral Family Portraits".

These events represent a "tipping point" in my career and by supporting me at this stage you will be ensuring I can take full advantage of the opportunity to advance my international profile and professional development.

Because Pozible uses an "all-or-nothing" funding model I only get your money if I reach my target. So to ensure I get at least enough for my flights I've chosen a $2000 target. But please don't stop pledging once I reach $2000 because as you can see from my budget below my total costs are much higher!

I'll need around $2000 for return flights to Europe and up to $500 for internal travel from Germany to Scotland. Conference fees, food, accommodation and mobile phone/internet will cost around $3000. Back home I need to cover $3000 worth of home and studio rent. A grand total of $8,500! So clearly some assistance from others will make realising this project much less burdensome on me.

The works that I'll be presenting in Scotland are a print series of six wood engravings combined with digital print techniques called "Feral Family Portraits", I'm including pictures of these below.

The works I will make during the residency in Germany don't exist yet so i can't show them to you but I would love to invite you to see them at an exhibition in Australia upon my return. I am also currently seeking further international opportunities to exhibit the new Beisinghoff works, so international supporters should stay tuned!

I'm serious about my work! I work hard at being an artist and I have a great record of successful projects. I have an extensive history of exhibiting locally and internationally (this year in New York, San Francisco, Berlin and Sophia in Bulgaria) and have works held in private and public collections both here in Australia and overseas.  My LinkedIn profile provides endorsements of my ability to complete projects to the highest standards and my website www.racheljoyartist.com documents my past projects and CV.javascript:nicTemp();

I have worked in collaboration with high profile arts organisations such as Opera Victoria and Snuff Puppets Theatre Company on a number of successful projects over the years.

This Giant Ear Puppet was a commission through Snuff Puppets Theatre company for the Beyond Blue Anti-Depression Youth Campaign.  Here it is on its way to Federation Square in Melbourne to "listen" to the problems of the city's young people.

I have completed major public art commissions such as the sculpture "The Meaning of Life" and the mural "Aria Lepidoptera", both for Courthouse Arts Centre in Geelong Australia. These are pictured below.

Thanks for your support in developing my art practice and helping me deliver a little Joy to the world!
