It's pretty hard being a tween these days. There is enormous pressure on young girls to look and be something that they're not meant to be for years. What follows is low self-esteem and sexualised behaviour, in younger and younger girls. We (500 Hours) care about this and are trying to do something. We call it HULA HELPS!!
Donations to Hula Helps will purchase 10 Hula Hoops and tutoring (two facilitators) for one hour per week for one school term at the Kippa-Ring State School on the Redcliffe peninsula, North of Brisbane. 78% of the students attending the school are below the national average on the index for community socio-educational advantage (www.myschool.edu.au).
Hula Helps is a micro-project of 500 Hours.
