There's something kind of wrong happening with news today.

The Democratic Republic of Congo has been at war since 1996. This war is the second deadliest war since WW2. But we hardly ever hear about it in the media.
6 million people and their deaths and suffering are hardly ever mentioned.
Why is that?

Editors have told me that readers just don't care about what's happening in Africa.
But i think they're wrong.

In August i'm going to the Congo with the experienced war correspondent Øjvind Kyrø.

I'm going to report on a variety of stories including
- The new Intervention Brigade, deployed by the UN. These peacekeepers have a right to shoot, the first time this mandate has been given in the history of the UN.
- How war crimes in the Congo help make your smart phone.
-What it's like to be a woman in the Congo, the rape capital of the world, where two out of three women have been sexually assaulted.

My stories will be published online, in print and broadcast on the radio. But the amount i'll get paid for this is about as much as Gina Rinehart uses to wipe her arse.

This is just some of the costs involved, in AUD:

Press card: $270
Vaccinations: $250
Visa: $191
Fixer: $800
Malaria pills: $150
Flights: $2000

I can even get warzone insurance, including cool benefits like kidnapping insurance for $294.

Through a grant and work i've got the money for about half of it.

So i need your help.

Watch the video, check out my story.

Donate now. If you do, you'll get some sweet personalized rewards from me. Aside from that, you'll be helping to train a young war correspondent, so that in the future, stories like the war in the Congo are told.

This is the big one. If you donate this much, you get a chance to act as my editor. That means you can choose any story you want me to report on in the DRC and i'll do it, just for you. You choose the medium- radio, video or print. After that it's yours. Read it,publish it, keep it under your bed, paper mache it, turn it into a small paper cape for your bedside lamp. It's yours.
