Fitzroy Summer Residency
This follows on from the success of our last residencies, Takuro from Japan (2009/10), and Nick from Canada (2008/9)
Summer 2011- 2012 we plan to host Johanna Nordin from Sweden www.cargocollective.com/nordin
The residency aims to connect Seventh Gallery to international and national art communities through exchange and interaction. We are also excited to be able to offer the local arts community new opportunities for engagement and collaboration and we would love you to get involved!
During their time at Seventh, the artists will be adopted into the Seventh community and will be offered a productive time to focus on developing new work whilst experiencing the independent Melbourne art scene and culture. Seventh gallery will become their studios for the duration of the 27 day residency, which will conclude with an event/exhibition to celebrate the residency and showcase the works that have resulted from the program. Accommodation for the artists is billeted amongst the Seventh Board and at the locally run Brooklyn arts hotel also in Fitzroy.
Our goal is to raise $3000 to cover the rent of the gallery normally covered by artists exhibiting. We wish to provide the artists in their final week accommodation at Brooklyn arts hotel to resolve and finish their work. The residency is quite short and we understand the artists may be under pressure towards the end of their stay, so offering private accommodation at this stage will allow their making time to be as productive and enriching as possible.
As a non-for-profit artist run organisation, Seventh Gallery thanks you kindly for your support, without which this exciting new project would not be possible! We look forward to seeing you over the Summer to meet our residents!
Appear on my Pozible Wall & link to your website or blog. Knowing that you are helping us reach our goal. All supporters will go on our mailing list to be invited to all of Seventh Gallery's Openings and receive a program in the mail. This is a great opportunity to meet the Seventh community.
To show our thanks and gratitude we want to help you too. We will run your name on Seventh Nightscreen along with other supporters for the week following the residency in mid January. The screen projects out onto Gertrude st, we feel this is a great opportunity to promote your business or yourself and to show you support non-for-profit artist run organisations. You will also be welcomed into the fold by having a glass of wine on us for the first three exhibition openings on Seventh's 2012 calender.
