You’re invited to the hotel party of THE tragic fallen fashionista, UTA UBER KOOL JA. 
Tonight Uta is baring all: she’ll dance for you; cry at you; laugh with you. Her intimate party takes place inside a chic hotel room, & every inch of the room is Uta’s stage, & the audience are her guests.

Inspired by amazing women of the 20th & 21st century UTA UBER KOOL JA is a tongue-in-cheek fictional live biography of Uta: an actor/feminist/pop star/artist/exhibitionist/rock star. Uta used to be famous once, or so she'll lead you to believe. You may not remember any of her films, music or art, but she seems to know a lot of famous people...

It's a live show, a piece of performance. Except there is no theatre, just a hotel room. 
With champagne for everyone. UTA UBER KOOL JA blends dark comedy, intimate exchanges and glossy finishes with tragedy & perversion to ask “what more can we get from scraping the bottom of a barrel?” It is a Norman Gunston meets Norma Desmond peek-a-boo car crash that is deeply funny & disturbing.

THE PROJECT:

Uta is the brain child of actor, Georgina Symes, aided & abetted by longtime collaborator Nic Dorward. She dreamed up Uta 4 years ago, & they've been working on her ever since. The hotel room show premiered at the 2011 Melbourne Fringe Festival where it sold out, won awards & got rave reviews. Now we've been picked up by Adelaide Fringe Festival as the winners of the Tour Ready award (along with other international arts festivals very interested, and a TV producer sniffing around like Uta's ex-lovers).

We're in need of support to get us to the 2012 Adelaide Fringe Festival. We're not really using the money to buy French champagne! Your generous support will allow the following:

  • Travel the small Uta Uber Kool Ja company to Adelaide from Sydney (and back).
  • Engage emerging Australian designers to create some of Uta's more "over the top" outfits to wear during the season.
  • Print and distribute (recycled) posters, postcards and other marketing materials.
  • Uta Uber Kool Ja to finally get the recognition she deserves!

ARTISTS BACKGROUNDS:
Georgina Symes has been acting on Australian stages and screens for 15 years, working with many of Australia's best companies like Bell Shakespeare, Griffin Theatre Co, Queensland Theatre Co & recently appeared in indie feature Bad Behaviour (which made it all the way to Cannes). She also danced on stage at The Lido in Paris, sat for an Archibald winning artist & once got shushed by a deaf man (true story).

Nic Dorward has been working as a creative producer/director for 9 years, ran his own performance company, the Restaged Histories project, directed for a lot of other companies including Queensland Theatre Co, Brisbane Festival and more, graduated from NIDA & got funded to study film in NYC & research performance around Europe. When he isn't throwing hotel room parties, he can be found managing film festivals and gay hip-hop DJ'ing. Georgina has been his muse since 2006.Which at times is tricky because he lives in Melbourne, and she lives in Sydney.
