UPDATE

Wow - thank you to those who have supported the first period of this fundraising campaign.  And hello is this is your first visit here.

I am very exciting that the pledges are underway, and I am so humbled and jittery with nervous excitement at what I can achieve should this fundraising be successful.

Thank you!  Check out the new promo photo - courtesy of Sarah Walker. Talented, isn't she?

Please continue to pledge your support and be rewarded accordingly.

With love and respect, Gareth

I am seeking support to create a dynamic and intricate new solo dance piece, to be premiered at the 2012 Adelaide Fringe Festival. Your kind donation will help towards the purchase of production equipment (which is vital to this piece – come along and see why ;-) ) and space hire.

The work:

Ellipsis is a new contemporary dance solo by Gareth Hart.

An ellipsis can also be used to indicate a pause in speech, an unfinished thought, or, at the end of a sentence, a trailing off into silence (aposiopesis).

The work is an improvised solo performance, situated somewhere between thoughts, sound and light. It is an idiosyncratic solo work developed through the detailed development of new terrains in scored improvisation.

Choreography the work will draw inspiration from the perception of the body being constantly in in-between states, and the metaphor of ‘strands of thought’.

He stands, breathing, skin touching air; thoughtfully carving his way through space. Performed inside a delicately shifting web of filament, ‘Ellipsis’ evokes visceral responses across the senses. An engaging new work inhabiting the space between thoughts, time and light. Intricate. Gentle. Immersive.

The Future:

After a successful first season and development of this work, I am seeking a future life for the performance.  My dream is to tour this work around Australia in 2012, and then give birth to an overseas live in 2013.  Your support now will strengthen the future potential of this work.

The Fundraising:

Thankyou for coming by the Pozible page. It is estimated this new creative endeavor will cost me roughly $6,000, and to take a little of the sting out of my wallet, I am hoping to raise at least $1,000 of this through Pozible. I am creating this work completely un-funded, so every dollar you might be able to spare will help me immensely.

The idea:

I am dedicated to two things artistically.

1 – creating work which embraces individuality, and does not adhere to typical aesthetics or values of performance. I enjoy the thought that those who come and see live performance are intelligent and engaging, therefore my work should also be thus. This is no space for pure entertainment anymore

2 – empowering an audience to adopt more than a passive observer role within performance. This new work will engage, entice, excite and intrigue.

With thanks from the bottom of my creatively rich heart. xx

The Artists:

Gareth Hart (Choreography and Performance)

GARETH HART has spent almost ten years developing an improvisational methodology that constantly places the body and perception at the centre of choreographic practice, through the development of scores, states of performing and conceptual rigor. During these ten years, Gareth has gained valuable influence from artists Paul Romano, Rosalind Crisp, Ros Warby and Helen Herbertson.

Edward Willoughby (Sound Composition):

EDWARD WILLOUGHBY is primarily a sound artist with extensive skill in composition and arrangement, favoring piano as his central creative platform. He is currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Applied Music, specializing in Composition.
