Impossible plays is a performance-video project that investigates fantasy as a starting point for a new world order. It will be presented at the Next Wave festival in May this year.

To make this project Alice Williams interviewed four strangers about their private imaginings. Their fantasies are the fabric of a brave new performance world.

Megan is a quietly spoken vet in Alice Springs who won the 2007 Penrith regional Air Guitar

Championships by setting fire to her trousers.

Andy is a street poet whose vivid writing treads an uncanny line between fantasy and reality.

Douggie is an Arente watercolour artist living in Alice Springs who dreams his country.

Mushi is a tarot card reader who navigates possible future worlds in pursuit of sanctuary.

This Pozible campaign is raising funds to transport our creative team from Sydney to Melbourne for the Next Wave festival and to hire seating for our audience. This project has been in development for a year and a half, with each generous member of our creative team working tirelessly at different times to contribute to the vision of the future that it presents. The interviews were documented by video artist Chloe Hughes (edited with Sasha Cohen). Impossible Play's performers are Amity Yore, Jane Grimley, Katherine Beckett and Megan Garrett-Jones.

Next Wave festival director Emily Sexton says about this work: “The depth of heart expressed by this piece is strongly representative of the kind of generosity and urgency I was looking for when curating the Festival."

Impossible Plays is an urgent, playful investigation of our possibilities. Your support will help us to realise our work, and present the fantasies of strangers to you as an outstanding and reflective creative experience. Your support is greatly appreciated and warmly received. We will acknowledge the support of all donors in our program, in addition to the gifts of recognition we have listed on this page.

Thankyou for your time and support of our work!
