Project Details
Our supernatural, comedic adaptation follows the story of a lonely artist who tries desperately to make friends with a frightened art critic. Our goal? The HP Lovecraft Film Festival, Los Angeles, 2012, where we’ll be competing for entry and a screening of our film.

Look here: at the HP Lovecraft film festival for more info about the event.

Pre-production has begun and we are set to start filming in June. Completion date is August 1st…Just in time for the festival!

So...Who are you guys?
Smith Mason Films is an emerging, independent production company in Brisbane, which has teamed up with the creators of PICKMAN, Colin and Brooke Fong.  Colin and Brooke  are independent filmmakers from Brisbane, Australia. Colin has worked on shorts, feature films, music videos, live visuals and television in Australia and the United States. He specialises in production, camera and screenwriting. Brooke divides her time between art department and personal creative projects, which have also included work for the HP Lovecraft Literary Podcast.

And Why do you want to make the film?
We want to make a film based on a HP Lovecraft story that everybody can enjoy, and that we as a crew and as fans can be proud of. Our goal is to add to the universe HP Lovecraft created, and to pay respect to the man who has inspired us all in many different ways.

Who is this HP Lovecraft, anyway?
HP Lovecraft was a science fiction and horror writer in the early 1900s. He was born and died in Providence, Rhode Island.

OK.  But why should we care about some dead, old guy?
HP Lovecraftʼs presence can be felt in many of the modern books, films and videogames that we love today. Lovecraft is an inspiration to many modern writers such as Stephen King and Joyce Carroll Oats.
Gotham Cityʼs least functional insane asylum Arkham takes its name from a town created by... you guessed it: HP Lovecraft.
You like the Alien franchise? Sure you do. Also borrows heavily from the Lovecraft universe. He created the Necronomicon, and inspired directors like John Carpenter and Guillermo del Toro. What didn’t this guy do?
From internet memes about his evil elder god CTHULHU, to roleplaying games, and episodes of South Park. Wherever big monsters are coming out of the sea, Lovecraft is there.

Alright.  But what does my donation get me?
Apart from a warm fuzzy feeling and our eternal gratitude…

$50 will get you a credit in the film, plus a PICKMAN poster pack*
$100 will get you a credit in the film, plus your very own puppet, made in your resemblance.*

*Both puppets and poster packs will be posted on completion of the film in August, 2012.

Where/when can I see the film?
Once finished, we’ll be screening the film locally for cast and crew. However, due to strict festival entry guidelines, we are unable to screen the film publicly, or online until all festival entries are submitted.
