Will's greatest gift is his ability to seize the moment. So 12 months ago I seized my moment and decided it was time to live my passionate life. What would I be doing if I could? My love of photography, stationery and the need to share and appreciate the importance of gratitude came together to create The Gratitude Project.
The Gratitude Project is the creation of personalised gratitude cards for you or your business which helps you say thank you daily and spontaneously. The project aims to encourage and work with businesses small and large to simply spend more time thanking those people who help build your business and support you. One important way to retain and build your business is to say thanks in a way which is genuine.
The funds raised through Pozible will help build a website, work with communities across Australia and further develop the schools projects. Please read my story.
My life 14 years ago was not what I expected.
My son was born with delays which later in his life we came to know as Autism. Where I was & where I wanted to be were conflicted & came with intense moments of loneliness and isolation. At the time I did not understand the gift that had been presented to me and through his limited communication, inability to read or write or express his deepest feelings of pain, fear or frustration, this boy has encouraged me to change the way I view life. His determination, courage, love, acceptance & wrought iron will I know in these things, he was way ahead of the game. I started paying attention & that space of time that became my life, became life changing.
I created a series of black and white postcards with incredible help from a design friend, packaged them in wool felt envelopes infused with essential oils and walked the streets to see if people liked them and would potentially buy them. Everything sold! The cards had an image and a word on the front such as thank you, hug, love, beautiful, the little things and on the reverse a quote which resonated with the word. There is space to write your own words. Seize the moment and give someone a card.
I reminded people that the cards are to be shared daily or when the moment says so. On the reverse of the card just add your words, then slip the card under someones tea cup, into their bag, in between the pages of a book or under the windscreen wiper. Place it into someone’s suitcase, on the seat of the car or use it as a greeting card to accompany a present. It was such a profound reminder that a card that expresses love and care can positively change someones day. Don't wait for an important occasion, simply connect.
I then invited 10 local businesses to be apart of the Gratitude Project to see if an increased level of gratitude in business made a difference to their growth, business wellbeing and staff morale. Each one accepted within 3hours of sending the invitation and so I created a single card for each of them personalised to their business and set a target of 28 days to test the project. 10 businesses grew to 20 business and now I have created a series of gratitude cards for one of Australias leading charities, Camp Qualiy. They presented their volunteers around Australia with a pack of gorgeous cards with images of the children to say thanks. It was very special. The recipients then payed the cards forward .. meaning the brand and the gratitude grows.
Cards have also been created for a global Hotel group, a vineyard, private school, libraries, tourism offices, a general store, a recruitment company and a real estate agent. The Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney, libraries, FOOD Week, Tourism, a media company and a journalist and for a funeral. SImply to say thanks with no expectation of a return
I genuinely want people to understand the importance of being grateful and expressing gratitude consistently.
Next Step
I would like to now build a web site that can connect me with a global audience that would like to see the value of an increased level of gratitude in business. I would like to connect with Oprah Winfrey. I would like to add a blog to the page to share stories of businesses who use gratitude as a primary way to connect with clients and to share how their personalised card is used.
I would like to share the Gratitude Project with communities around Australia. Like my own community, we now have 20 businesses sharing their gratitude through the daily use of their card. I would like to travel to a new community every 3 months and find 10-20 businesses in each community who would like to make a difference and share gratitude within their businesses and with their clients. Grow their community strength through gratitude.I would like to work with major charities who are constantly requesting donations from the public and businesses and create cards for them. To share the importance of hand written messages as apposed to sending impersonal email and text messages.
Finally I would like to work with youth and schools. I am creating a card for a school in my community and the idea is for the kids, teachers and parents to be spontaneous and share a card when the moment presents itself. To show gratitude for the small things and for the kids to understand and learn more fully how showing gratitude can improve their day and their life.
If one person truly understands the meaning of gratitude and creates something from the heart, the world will be changed. If everyone does, the world will be transformed.
