The Hayloft Project is the award-winning independent theatre company behind Thyestes, The Nest, 3xSisters, Delectable Shelter, The Only Child, and Yuri Wells. For our latest show we're heading to an inner suburban warehouse for the world premiere of a bare bones reconditioning of a timeless drama...
THE SEIZURE
after Sophocles' Philoctetes
Written and Directed by Benedict Hardie
Philoctetes is a wounded man. Betrayed and abandoned for ten years on a barren island of rocks and crows. But what happens when a marginalised man becomes the key to ending ten years of carnage?
The Seizure is an unsentimental interrogation of trauma, the costs of war and the pursuit of justice. A story of hope and reconciliation steeped in the blood and tears of a society lusting for victory. When all is forsaken, who can hold on to humanity?
We've joined with POZIBLE in pursuit of a belief: That audiences are richly rewarded by the work of independent artists determining their own destiny. As theatre makers, we seek stories that speak to us, and that speak to our society. The Seizure is one such story. And we need your help to bring it to audiences.
All of the artists involved in The Seizure are professionals generously donating their time to the project. But there are plenty more costs involved in producing theatre with the trademark visual flair of The Hayloft Project.
$4000 is the total cost of the set, costumes, lighting, and sound equipment for this play. If you give to this campaign, every physical aspect of the space will be paid for by you (not including the actors, of course). A burst of sound, a glimmer of light, a boot striking a freshly laid floor; none of it will be possible without your input. And you'll get to boast to your friends that you made it happen. And you'll feel good inside. And we'll love you forever.
Go on. We would.
