The Oxford Girl Theatre Project serves fundamentally as an experiment of traditional text, similar to the idea of 'Chinese whispers'. The Oxford Girl will explore the impossibility of telling a 'true' story due to our own opinions, beliefs and prejudices. This will be done through the platform of a dynamic Physical Theatre piece based on the story of The Oxford Girl.

The Oxford Girl Theatre Project ensemble is based in Brisbane and consists of James Halloran, Hannah Farrelly, Indigo Keane, and Xani Kennedy. Though all of us are still quite young, we have all worked very closely with Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre Company as Youth Ambassadors and Interns and plan to draw on this extensive training and knowledge for this performance. The Company have also been kind enough to assist us in advertising support. The ensemble culminated in January 2012 to bring our first production, The Oxford Girl, to life!

We have a very strong online campaign on Facebook where supporters can keep up to date on our progress throughout the production via photographs and footage of our rehearsals coming directly from Ithaca Creek!

The production will run in partnership with the Anywhere Theatre Festival 2012 on the 11th, 18th and 19th of May, starting at 4pm at Ithaca Creek in Woolcock Park, Glenrosa Road, Red Hill. Tickets can be purchased at the Anywhere Theatre Festival website.

With the support and funds raised, we are hoping to take our production to the Festival of Australian Student Theatre at the La Boite Roundhouse Theatre in Kelvin Grove, throughout September.

"An ancient river flows and waits, waiting for an audience to share the twisted love tale it holds in its banks. Full of spirits, stories, voices and lost souls, the river has witnessed acts of horror and beauty, and now it is aching to tell the story of an innocent love consumed by fear, and the lives consumed by the river itself.

Based on the story of the Cruel Miller, a tale originating from events that occurred within the 1600’s, The Oxford Girl will bring a new life to this gothic tale of murder, love and deceit. Performed on the eerie banks of Ithaca Creek, this landscape will provide a suitably disconcerting setting for audiences to witness and experience firsthand, where these two star-crossed lovers’ lives ended tragically.

The Oxford Girl will attain a prominently minimalistic style of performance, relying on the performers trained bodies primarily. The performer’s exceptional ability to articulate meaning through physicalisation enables a simple, yet highly effective performance to take place through movement based, self-choreographed material. The incorporation of the ancient art of storytelling also enables this tale to maintain the historical contexts in which it comes from. Combining a strong influence of Physical Theatre, Butoh Dance-Theatre elements, and the use of live music, a twisted, contemporary and disturbingly beautiful performance will be created and performed by some of Brisbane’s most diverse and emerging Artists."

We desperately need and would greatly appreciate your love and support!
