The creative team behind Cocoon are extremely excited to have this opportunity to bring their music video to life. By donating to this project you will be helping us achieve the level of quality that we currently envision.

Our aim is to raise $500 so that we can put it towards our art department and hire all the props and costumes that we require.

The video contains a period setting relating to the 19th century and we are doing whatever it takes to get our hands on as many costumes as possible to give our actors and extras that authentic quality, so if you did decide to help us out w

e would be eternally grateful for any contributions you could give us, even the tiniest ones.

Short Synopsis:

A musician follows a butterfly through a park and ends up on a journey through her own imagination.

Long Synopsis:

A girl follows a butterfly through a park and projects her own imagination on to all the people she encounters, imagining them as if they lived in the Victorian Era. She is invited to a breakfast, but leaves after only a few moments, following the butterfly further into the park where she encounters a sight of innocent, young love. She then leaves the park to perform songs on the street, and is visited by a traveler from the past.

Directors Statement:

The aim for this music video is to create a visual companion that can accompany and compliment the pop-song “Cocoon”, written by Alannah Weir. In her gentle and radiant lyrics Alannah speaks of innocence and finding beauty in everything, even the tiniest places. Stemming from that concept, this video will be intended as a chance for audiences to step into and join a musician on a short journey through her own imagination.

The concept for the video relies heavily upon the idea of beauty in small things. In an attempt to capture that concept visually, a strong emphasis will be on the location, as my aim is for it to be a setting that is exceptionally beautiful which is intended to complement the ethereal beauty of the song itself. Colour and lighting will play a crucial part in conveying the sense of early morning, with strong sunshine glistening off flowers, windows and the butterfly. The butterfly itself will be hand drawn, and animated via keyframe animation in Adobe After Affects, giving it a stylized quality, albeit not to the point of feeling entirely unnatural. Alannah's imagination projects a setting pertaining to the Victorian Era, hence the decision to dress the characters in the park in Victorian era garb. The reason for the choice of setting is to give the piece an otherworldly quality that is at once familiar, and yet fantastic.

There are, of course, several strong influences on the overall aesthetic of the piece, one of which being artworks from the Romanticism movement of the 19th century, mainly due to the use of vibrant colour as well as mildly fantasy-like elements. Another strong influence is Alice in Wonderland, due to its implementing a character that follows her own curiosity into a fantasy setting.
