Deliverance is a live-art piece that disrupts life's regular patterns to ask a city: What does it mean to survive?
On the back of our immense experience at the Adelaide Fringe, Deliverance has been invited to join the inaugural residency program at new Berlin arts space, ZK/U: Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik/Centre for Art and Urbanistics http://www.zku-berlin.org/ It’s very exciting news for the next stage of this work.
In March at the Adelaide Fringe, Penny Harpham, Kat Henry and William McBride entered a 3 x 6m space on the lawn of Rymill Park with nothing – no food, no shelter, no clothes – and called on the people of Adelaide to help them to survive 10 days. As Deliverance unfolded, we had to learn to go without, to manage surplus, to build things and develop systems for living. We met hundreds of people from the City of Adelaide throughout the 10 days, and, in the process, we met the city itself.
ABC Radio’s Peter Goers called Deliverance: “A highlight, and a great hit, of the Adelaide Fringe…. Simple, adept and a sensation.”

ZK/U has been established by Berlin's most prolific live-art collective, KUNSTrePUBLIK. The centre sees itself as 'a laboratory for inter- and trans-disciplinary activities centered on the phenomenon of “the city”.' It is a perfect fit for Deliverance.
In August, we will re-perform Deliverance for the people of Berlin, and then join dozens of other artists from around the world to exchange ideas and develop our concept further.
Deliverance has a big future, and from Berlin we will look to take it to more cities across the world.
Our fundraising goal is $9000, between the three of us, to help with flights, living expenses and production costs.
From its beginnings in our lounge rooms, through its development in Brisbane and its performance at the Adelaide Fringe, Deliverance has touched thousands of people across Australia. If you are able to help in any way with this next exciting stage, we will be tremendously grateful.
