We are small, but we have a big vision!

The Living Room Theatre is a small not-for-profit performance company. We create challenging theatrical works that are beautiful to watch, and to experience. We integrate light, sound, film, movement, text and smell to create a rich sensory environment for our audience.

I Love Todd Sampson is our biggest, bravest and most ambitious production to date. Sadly, we cannot complete this work on our waitressing wages (no matter how short our skirts) so we are looking for donors and fans to help us realise our vision.

We need to raise $7500 to continue the development of this extraordinary project which includes the making of the famous “Todd Sampson in the bath” scene.

I Love Todd Sampson highlights the link between mental instability and dysfunction stemmed from childhood abuse and recurring trauma. With innovative narrative and a richly textured setting, I Love Todd Sampson provides new insights on the complexity of trauma and isolation and its impact on the wider community.

Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a great battle – Phil of Alexandria

If you love Todd Sampson, join us in loving him up! Every dollar counts and your donation, however small, will help us reach our target.

More about us

Our themes flow between beauty and suffering.

The Living Room Theatre believes in the power of the arts to clarify and illuminate social problems and we are dedicated to exploring these issues in a unique and insightful way.

We do this by the continual deconstruction of traditional theatrical boundaries. Through movement, installation, sound, film and text we inhabit space and reach beyond the narrative line to create a new platform on which to give and receive theatre.

We were established in 2000 and have created 9 original works. See some of our work

More about I Love Todd Sampson

The haunting sanctum of Laura's lonely mind.

As a 12 year old Laura was leased by her father to his mates at the local RSL. During these horrific events she taught herself to dissociate. Unable to cope with the everyday she found ‘friends’ each of whom have been manifested from paintings, furniture and walls.

The problem is these days adult Laura is not feeling too good. All these memories keep pushing up from the strangest of places. So she packs her bags and heads to an abandoned building.

And it is here where we meet her - in the broad expanse of both levels of the historic Pier 2/3. Inside this space the audience finds a dense and complex world of film, sound, live music, rain, maritime artefacts encased in snow … and Todd Sampson bathing in her tub.

Deep within this fragile inner sanctum we bear witness. She kneels down beside him to help. He just can’t reach that part of his back. You know where

A moment of true comfort arrives, before her world begins to spin out of control.

And who is Todd Sampson???

Todd Sampson is the CEO of Leo Burnett, one of Australia's top creative advertising agencies …boring I know but WAIT!

He is the co-creator of the Earth Hour initiative… In 2009, Earth Hour was the biggest environmental movement in history with over a 1 billion people participating in over 4000 cities around the world…see generally caring good guy!

Todd completed an unguided ascent to the top of Mount Everest after roughly two months, eight trips through the ice fall, over a dozen snow storms, two attempts on the summit, snow blindness, near starvation, falling into a crevasse, two avalanches, three deaths and losing 15 kgs – must have been a fatty!

He came into my life on May 28 2008 as a regular panellist on ABC's hit TV show The Gruen Transfer. I was in a downward dog pose (I am Indian what do you want from me?) when I heard him before I saw him. The voice, the accent - Crap – I was in love.

From a Pozible Donor...

"Just want to tell you why I want to give, because motivation is important.

I am giving because of your openness, you radiate a joy and curiosity about life and people in general as well as for your work. It is lovely to be part of that.

You have fantastic people around you also wanting to help you, which is a real "stamp of approval". Mostly it was listening to you talkabout just wanting to make a body of work that means something before you die, and the fact that you have worked incredibly hard and putyour money where your mouth is by self-funding it for so long. I want to see you rewarded for those sacrifices. And I think other people will too.

Talk to other artists. Talk to entrepreneurs.Talk to risk takers, or maybe better, the creative people in normal jobs who wished they took the risk. They will get it. "
