WHAT IS THE 48 HOUR FILM PROJECT?

The 48 Hour Film Project Melbourne (48HFP) is part of an international film competition spanning 125 cities around the world.

Described as the ultimate test of filmmaking endurance, skill and creativity 48HFP is unlike any other film project in the world.

Local teams are given a genre which is drawn at random on the kick-off date (October 19th 2012) as well as a prop, a line of dialogue and a character. Using these as a base, the teams are given forty-eight hours to write, shoot, edit and produce a short film. HECTIC!

The 48 Hour Film Project Melbourne was established in 2007 to bring together the local filmmaking community and develop a creative forum in which professionals and amateurs could collaborate.

Every year the project grows. Since its inception, 48HFP Melbourne has attracted 154 teams and a total of 2310 participants. We are looking forward to another successful Project in 2012!

HOW DOES THE PROJECT WORK?

The 48HFP is two-fold. The films themselves are made over a weekend. Following this, a few weeks later there is a 48 Film Festival during which all of the films are screened. Tickets for the screenings are available to the public for purchase (and are also packaged in some of our reward tiers - look right!)

WHY DO WE NEED YOUR HELP?

Every year, the Project relies on the generosity of our sponsors and supporters and we need you to make this year’s 48HFP the best it can be. While 48 Melbourne does charge entry fees to cover some of these expenses (with the help of our brilliant sponsors who cover some of our prizes) there is always a significant shortfall which we need to fill through other channels.

With your support, 48HFP can continue to act as a creative forum in which local filmmaking culture can flourish. It is in this setting that the next generation of Australian filmmakers can collaborate in order to bring new, exciting stories to the world.

The Project also provides the opportunity for Melbourne filmmakers to make industry connections, gain more experience and hone their skills.

HOW WILL YOUR DOLLARS HELP THE PROJECT?

Your pledges will go towards funding crucial elements of the festival like:

· Cinema and venue hire fees (for the five 48HFP screening events)

· Printing expenses and print media distribution (marketing and promotion of the project)

· Website development (showcasing previous films, facilitating team registration and ticketing)

· Insurance

· Prize packages for the winning filmmakers.  (There are over 13 major prize packages put together from funding and sponsorship)

· Flights and accommodation for the major prize winners.  The Melbourne 48HFP winner will fly to Los Angeles and compete in the international 48HFP competition, Filmapalooza!
