The Cycling Promotion Fund is seeking $2000 as a 50% contribution towards producing compelling and powerful photographic photos and imagery for a campaign and film demonstrating the impact of motor vehicles and other transport alternatives on our urban space.

Replicating the famous ‘Muenster’ photo (above), the images will simply, succinctly and explicitly highlight the space needed to move 69 individuals through an Australian city by bus, bike and car.

In addition to capturing a single representative image, we will be utilising time lapse photography and other images to create a short film that shows the process of getting people and vehicles in place and illustrates the time requirements to move vehicles and, more importantly, people through our cities.

An image can of course speak a thousand words and we would like to illustrate how our cities have become increasingly congested due to our reliance on motor vehicles and a lack of investment in active travel - including walking, cycling and public transport. We think imagery is how to best deliver this message. The economic impact of congestion, reduced health, lack of physical activity and impact to the environment are all known, but the key is to now communicate it effectively. This image and short film will provide a resource to communicate to the Australian public and politicians as to why we need to look at complete transport solutions for moving people not vehicles.

The photo will complement the CPF’s efforts to act federally for better policy in support of active travel and integration with the transport system. The Moving People 2030 Taskforce, which the CPF is a founding member of, expects to launch a major report on our transport needs to 2030 in October, 2012 in a major Parliamentary event to both the federal & shadow Ministers for Transport.

Contributions beyond the $2000 goal will help us further offset the cost of this and related promotional activities. Please contribute whatever you can and help us make a difference!
