About the Project
Power the Kid is a short film produced by Brisbane-based production company Andravida Media, in conjunction with QPIX and Screen Queensland.
Written by actor/writer Julian Curtis, Power the Kid tells the story of Callum,a little boy who retreats to the world of comic books, to escape the confronting reality of his home life.
Dealing with the theme of domestic violence, Power the Kid’s message is to empower victims of domestic violence to both stand up for themselves and to seek help against their abusers, so that they may regain control of their lives and stop being victims.
Synopsis
To escape the confronting reality of his home life, eight year-old Callum retreats to the world of comic books. Stepping forward as his favorite comic book hero, Power the Kid, and together with his older sister Jane, Callum withdraws to his imagination and away from the source of their family’s torment.
Can Callum find the courage to banish his evil arch-nemesis from their lives once and for all?
This is a provocative yet captivating story in the vein of David and Goliath, which proves that sometimes the bravest people amongst us, are the one’s we’d least expect.
What Do We Need The Money For?
We have been afforded a modest budget which has allowed us to cover the bare essential pre to post production costs, without any of our talented crew being paid for their invaluable time and dedication to the project:
· Workcover/Insurances
· Wardrobe
· Props/Set Design
· Catering
· Transfer of movie files to physical mediums
· Equipment: Camera, Lighting, Sound, Grips
We are looking to raise approximately $2,000.00 so that we may:
1. Allocate some funding towards our 2013-2014 marketing campaigns to submit Power the Kid into international film festivals.
2. Fund our post-production process, which will be very VFX heavy, given the nature of the comic book realm/real world crossovers in the film.

What Makes Power the Kid Cool?
Well for one, who doesn’t love superheroes? Power the Kidhas two of them: Power the Kid and Dark Raven, not to mention their evil arch-nemesis Insidious.
What’s going to be fun to see in Power the Kid is how we manage to manipulate the cross-over between reality and Callum’s comic book imagination. Our talented animator and VFX artist Tim Baker is already hard at work, in conjunction with our director Alex Barnes and DOP Richard Bell, at creating the look and feel of the comic book world, and the cross-over reality between that world and real life.
All support to make Power the Kid the success we know it will be is greatly appreciated.
