The genesis of Heyday Festival was found in a group of young creatives who saw an absence in the local arts community and took it upon themselves to rectify the absence for not only themselves, but also their peers and their community. The group is now inviting their community to own and invest in Heyday.



Heyday is many things to those involved. Each of the young, passionate volunteers that drive the project has their own inspiring story. In time, they hope to see Heyday Festival become a sustainable vehicle that drives the Far North Queensland youth arts sector.



Heyday will evolve with the annual handover to the next generation of young creatives; the festival will be theirs to interpret and develop into a vision that compliments their strengths and improves their skills. For now, Heyday aims to 'Stir the Core': provoke creative expression to kindle your mind and actions.



Heyday Festival has applied for multiple grants for various expenditure items – venue, marketing, equipment, professional fees, and more – to deliver the exciting and innovative festival they envision. The Heyday team is overjoyed with the successful allocation of grants to date; however, the total costs have not been covered for the Heyday Festival vision to become a reality. 



Heyday began in July 2011 with an inspired vision of a group of young creatives who, despite the great strides they have made, need help to take the next step. This is where you come in!

Heyday Festival is a multi arts festival based in Cairns showcasing music, performance and exhibitions. It is led by young volunteers and belongs to the community. Heyday aims to develop Far North Queensland’s youth arts sector by nurturing talented young artists, artsworkers, entrepreneurs and go-getters. The festival is so much more than a one-day event, with year-round activities and professional development, Heyday is a creative core.
