A little about the creator:

My name is Jennifer Powell, 

I am an artist, trans-personal art therapist and counsellor   I have been creating and facilitating personal self development workshops and seminars for over forty years. 

All of my artwork, performance work, writing and workshops are an expression of my great passion for the human experience, what it means to be human. 

I have always been looking for or creating tools to explore the human condition to provide valid ways to uncover the mystery of who we are and have developed this game as a response to that need.

This game has been waiting to emerge for some time and through the power of Pozible I believe that its time has finally arrived!

How you use the game:

The game begins with each player writing their question that they wish to find an answer to.

You must clearly state your question and then slip your hand in the leather pouch and let a gemstone find your fingers.

This will be your playing piece for the game, and as with everything in this game, each stone has a meaning that provides you the first clue into the mystery that your question outlines.

Each player’s journey will be different, driven entirely by the nature of their question and the people that they play with.

There is one constant however, and that is that every player is required to have collected ten Bone cards before they can finish the game.

“Bone Cards” cards can be collected by landing on a ‘Bone card’ square or you are awarded one when you get an Affirmation Card.

Affirmation cards outline your strengths in relation to your question, there are also Burden Cards which speak to the player about the difficulties relating to their question and they take away your Bone Cards.

Inevitably there will be more Burden Cards in the first half of your journey so collecting those Bone Cards will be more difficult than one might expect.

However as insight builds the game seems to speed up, the way becomes clear and you’re well on your way to a triumphant end.

Inside the tube you will find:

A  lovingly created board designed by Jennifer. 

350 assorted cards, all which are used in the game. 

A hand made pouch containing 9 gemstone playing pieces and a die. 

A full set of instructions.

What the funding is for: 

The funds raised will be used to start producing this game at an accessible price, this will be done with the purchase of large format printers, guillotines and some other equipment. 

The current costs and time involved in outsourcing the production of each of the game elements drive the cost up to far to be able to sell it at a reasonable price.  It will also allow me to get started on furthering the development of two other games which have flowed from this one, such as a single player version.

I will also need to engage some professional designers to develop the look, feel and packaging of this game to a much higher standard. 

Lastly it is to be able to purchase larger quantities of stock so again, I can further reduce the costs associated with the production of the game.

Befitting the community where I live:

I was fortunate enough to be able to play The Shaman Journey for the first time with Jennifer Powell. At that time, Jen’s unique ability to see beyond the obvious, coupled with her wise council, made my experience of the game doubly profound, but it is just those special talents of Jen’s that have resulted in the creation of a game that is in fact a powerful tool for self-discovery and healing.
I have since played it with other people and each time have marvelled at its uncanny ability to reveal the underlying issues behind each player’s query. Like anything, how well it works depends to some extent on what you are prepared to put into it, and when played with sincerity it can provide illuminating answers. But beware! It also has the unnerving knack of being able to recognise when the querent is prevaricating, and you may find yourself having the wool pulled from your eyes in no uncertain terms.
For this reason, the game works at its best when you are playing it with people that you trust, allowing all to engage in the process openly and with honesty, with each other and with yourself. So impressed was I with the Game’s ability, to not only help reveal the issues at the heart of a matter but to also affirm the qualities in ourselves that we can draw on for solutions, that I bought one to send overseas as a wedding present for a good friend.
It has since become her New Year ritual to play it. And as an added bonus, Jen’s art work is beautiful, making it as pleasing to play visually as it is to play for the soul.

The Shaman Journey has taken me on many adventures. I have played numerous times and asked a variety of questions from “Who am I?” to “How do I get past my block about going to the office?”. Each game brings with it new insights and ways of looking at the question.

Some games have been hilarious, others have brought tears. It can be a journey that takes you as far as you want to go, because although other players contribute their thoughts, ultimately it is your own probing and honesty that allows 'an answer' to emerge. It's uncanny how the game doesn't finish until the answer has been found.

Being a part of the original production team led me into many games with tables of strangers, yet as each game ended I rose from those same tables as from a circle of friends.

As one plays it seems the game itself unfolds with an innate wisdom as deep as the players themselves are willing to delve. Playing the Shaman Journey reminds us that there is much more in this lifetime that unites us than keeps us apart.
