Hooked On Film is a 15 minute weekly web series that reviews 3 new films per episode; a blockbuster or highly anticipated release available in most cinemas, an independent or foreign film with limited release, and lastly, a film made in Western Australia.

The first season will consist of 10 episodes and will be used as a way to gauge the success of the concept. According to how the audience responds further seasons containing a greater number of episodes may be developed.

The aim of Hooked On Film is to present film reviews in a completely fresh and unique way in order to stimulate debate and discussion of film among Western Australians.

We are mainly sponsored by Event Cinema, as our studio will be their luxurious Gold Class cinema. This also allows some giveaways during the series to the lucky winners who partake in the social media network.

Best of all, this will be available for everyone to watch online every week so that you can get an insight of each film before you watch it. You will be able to see the direct result of your support.

Meet the Team

It all started with three students who met while completing their Bachelor of Arts Degree in Screen arts at Curtin Univeristy. Cherie Wheeler the Director, Clare Toonen a presenter and Chantal Victor the Producer.

Since then the project has expanded into a great production consisting of 9 cast and crew members.
Here they are.

It's a bird,it's a plane, nooo its our presenter.... meet Kristian Barron

"The first movie I ever saw in the cinemas was Jurassic Park. I remember my mum kneeling down in front of me and explaining that, while the dinosaurs might be scary, they weren’t real. 5-year-old me thought ‘shuddup Mum, I got this’. I cried all the way home. And that’s how my love of film began. I was born in Perth but I’m also a Canadian citizen. My dad was born in Toronto, and made the reckless decision to take me to the South Park Movie when it came out in the cinemas. Needless to say, he’s never lived it down. I also hate roast pumpkin"

Camera, Lights, Action...Meet our Director Cherie Wheeler

"I'm a writer/director/editor who has previously worked as a journalist/videographer. My most recent works include short film Sweet Dreams, which premiered at Event Cinemas in July 2012, and short film noir Diamonds Are Forever."

What's that you hear, yes it's sound....meet our Soundie Sebastian D'Alonzo

"I'm a soundie that works on local productions around Perth including on set and post production sound. I recently worked on 'Fridey at the Hydey' which screened at RTRfm's Gimme Some Truth Music Documentary festival and 'The Mailman' which was accepted into 2013's Revelation Perth International Film Festival. In my spare time I also write music and play in a band"

How The Funds Will Be Used

Our budget is as follows:

Insurance to cover: $1500
Marketing for 6 months: $200
catering for cast and crew: $500

Our total is : $1750
Right now we are trying to cover Insurance because without it we are legally not allowed to film.

The Challenges

Most of the obstacles we thought we would encounter we have already dealt with such as
1- Finding the right Insurance cover to make sure everyone concerned is covered. (Event Cinema and Curtin University Equipment.)
2- Location ( Event Cinema is giving us their Gold Class cinema to film our show in).
3- A cinema to watch the movie before it is released. (we have joined Event Cinemas, once our pilot is created they will forward it to the distributors to receive access to the pre- screenings for media staff).
4- Not having enough viewers ( We will be using social networks to promote our series as well as have competitions with tickets to films as prizes. However we will not know how it will go until we air the first episode. I am sure with having such a broad slection of films including the local film we will be able to please everyone's taste).
5- Funds (This is what we are trying to source now. We have brought down the costs to the bare minimum to allow for the series to happen with almost no funding, the only part we cannot go without funding is insurance).

A thank you credit at the end of the final episode of the web series.
