Hello, we are Ugly In The Morning and if you're thinking "who the f**k are these flers", you'll get an idea from this teaser of our new single, "Riot City".


In 2013, our lead singer disappeared under mysterious circumstances. In 2014, we held auditions for a new frontman. After trying out half a dozen vocalists, we chose - quite unexpectedly - Pam Oei, a friend and well-known stage actress in Singapore.



As if to punish us for picking her, Pam's husband, the filmmaker Ken Kwek, asked us to write an up-beat rock number for his forthcoming film, the crime caper "Unlucky Plaza", which stars acclaimed Filipino actor Epy Quizon.



We say 'punish', not because we didn't relish the idea of writing a song for Ken's movie (we already have) but because we knew the job would inevitably lead us to the making of a music video. In other words, to the task of performing for the camera.

Now you might think, as rockers, we'd relish playing and posing for anyone with willing eyes and ears, let alone an inanimate object like a camera. But we find cameras a little creepy and, thankfully, in the modest environs of Singapore's music scene, indie rockers of the Ugly variety have traditionally been left unharassed by the glare of moving lenses and glamorous lights.

In any case, we've always preferred to hide our Ugly mugs in the music; to jam in our bass player's attic in the dead of night and put out albums at the freak of dawn.

But those days are over.  We have arrived at a crossroads.

We've decided to face our fears, get off our asses and ditch the camera-shyness. We want to launch the single "Riot City" - our first with Pam - by releasing a music video. A proper music video, with wacky visuals that wed our song with elements from Ken's new movie.

For this, we need a decent camera, lights, and a crew that includes professional filmmakers, not just friends and middle-aged relatives working for free.

So, this is us trying to raise the estimated $12,000 needed to stage a Riot in music video form. Help us make the leap.

The minimum $12,000 we aim to raise will go entirely to production and post-production costs, including:
* The director's team e.g producer, production manager and assistant director (estimated $1,500) 
* a cinematographer and camera equipment such as lights and dollies ($1,500)
* an art director, who will design and build a set for the video ($3,500)
* costume and makeup stylists ($1,000)
* costumes (rented) and makeup ($1,000)
* a music video editor from the UK and rental of an editing suite ($1,000)
* colour grading with a post-production house ($2,500)
The band members and director will waive their fees for the video.
