The Pinocchio Team x
--------------------------
Pinocchio packed his bag to find fame, celebrity and to walk on the wild side. This is an opportunity for you to share in his journey to New York City in 2015.
After highly successful seasons in Adelaide and Melbourne and a recent four-week season at the Sydney Opera House, co-presented by Sydney Theatre Company, our large scale family musical Pinocchio has been invited to perform a two-week season at the prestigious New Victory Theater in New York City in 2015.
WE NEED YOUR HELP TO SEND THIS BIG NOSE TO THE BIG APPLE!
Sending a large wooden log set and a company of 20 to New York isn’t cheap, so it’s up to Windmill Theatre and State Theatre Company of South Australia to cover freight, flights and accommodation. The total amount we need to raise is $120,000 and we are short $40,000. But because we’re new to the Pozible game, we thought we would set our sights on a modest $15,000.

ABOUT THE SHOW
Carlo Collodi published the original Pinocchio story in Italy in 1883 and there have been many adaptations since, including, of course, the iconic Disney version. The book is quite dark (which we love) and very episodic, so we started by choosing the most exciting events and well-loved characters to include, and began to work these into a three-act structure. We wanted to re-create the characters to make them fresh and identifiable to a modern audience by giving our Pinocchio and his friends Cat, Fox and Blue Fairy their own contemporary twists.
Before you can tell a story, you must find your own connection to it and we were immediately excited by Pinocchio’s quest to be real. We were especially excited that the story asked the question: what does it mean to be a real person? There are also other fantastic images in this classic tale, like a nose that grows when you tell lies, a conscience embodied as a cricket and Pinocchio, the ultimate naughty boy, who gives plenty of scope for fun and games.
Our way of making theatre is very collaborative and starts with our key creative team and talented actors getting together to explore and develop our ideas. Through this creative process we collectively uncover the story that is burning to be told. In the early stages of the development, we found the power of this story to be about a father’s love for his child. And so ultimately, this story is all about love.
PINOCCHIO
Once there was a lonely man with lots of love to give. He wanted a child so much that he carved himself a beautiful little boy. But the boy wanted the world and the latest designer sandshoes. He wanted fame, celebrity and to walk on the wild side. He was lured by temptation and the love of a blue girl. This woodenhead wanted more than his father could possibly give, and so he ran away to get it. This is his story... Based on the classic tale and boldly retold as a witty, gothic, rocking, family music theatre spectacular, Pinocchio is a contemporary celebration of the ‘whatever’ generation.

The Challenges
But it's not easy. Without the support of our individual donors, corporate partners, trusts and foundations, we wouldn't be able to share our work with audiences in Australia or overseas. Pozible is an avenue we hope will contribute just a small proportion of the tour cost, otherwise it's back to the drawing board to source more funds.
