Hi, I'm Tristram Baumber. In 2013 I created and scripted a ten-episode web sitcom called "The Cleanists". It was about four dysfunctional human beings who clean houses for a living. Each episode was set in a different house, and each house brought its own unique challenges (you know, heat-induced psychosis, traps left by magicians, that sort of thing). I put out a casting call and somehow managed to find the Best Cast Ever™. We shot all ten episodes on what was essentially no budget. No one was paid anything at all; the whole thing was done on a combination of asking favours and wishing on fairies. And it was fun! We released the show at the end of 2013 and we had a wonderful response. We were written about in many online and print publications, including TubeFilter and Splitsider. To our delight, the show was picked up by UK broadcaster Showcase TV and its sister channel InfoTV. We've had thousands and thousands of views on our YouTube channel and are having ongoing discussions with a US production company about distribution. Not a bad response for a little show about crazy cleaners.
Now we want to make Season 2 of The Cleanists. I've written another ten episodes, and everything about them is better than the first season. The situations are funnier and more original, the characters are more fleshed-out and human. One of the big advantages this time around is that the wonderful actors on The Cleanists have done so much to bring the characters to life. I found there were so many places to take them in a second season. It's almost as if Season 1 was our trial run, and with Season 2 we can make the show the way it's meant to be. This time I'm sticking the team in a house on wheels, I'm making them battle an evil computer - and I'm fast-forwarding fifty years to show the Cleanists in their golden years. It's an ambitious season and it's going to take work and money to make it happen.
Since the beginning, The Cleanists has felt like a little club - and it's a club that gets a bit bigger every time someone else gives their time to help make an episode or to tell their friends about it. Running a crowdfunding campaign is another way of bringing that club together. Everyone who pledges to the campaign will receive updates throughout the crowdfunding, production and post-production. If you look in the rewards you'll see invitations to the official launch party in there as well. We want every single person who pledges to feel like this is their show.
2014 is a pretty full year. A full-length pilot I wrote called Timothy is going into production. I'm also working with a team to bring a different full-length pilot called Future Boy to life. And I'm ready to dive in and make another season of The Cleanists the best it can possibly be. The reason I want to take on such a challenging task on top of everything else is entirely down to the fact The Cleanists team is such a pleasure to work with. Our actors, James, Shanon, Gabi and Craig are committed, talented actors, and they make me laugh every minute I'm working with them. I want to help them make you laugh too.

Every now and then a project comes along and it's fun and it's funny and it makes you happy to get up every morning. The Cleanists is that for me, and it's that for our entire cast. It's also that for our director of photography, and our sound recordist, and everyone else who works on the show. It's a magical thing, which we hope translates to the screen for you, the viewer.

How The Funds Will Be Used
We'll make all 10 episodes if we get $10,000. That's the minimum we've worked out we can make the season for. Our ideal goal is $20,000 so we can do the show we really want to do it, but if push comes to shove we can make it happen for half that ideal amount.
The crew for Season 2 will be bigger than Season 1, because we want the show to be bigger and glossier in every way. In Season 1, I ran around doing about 5 jobs at the same time. I can make a better show if I reduce that to 2 or 3. One of the key things with Season 2 is that we want to pay everyone who's involved. I don't feel like I can ask an entire cast and crew to give so much of their time - taking a large number of days away from other paid work - and not give them some money in return. It'll be just a fraction of what they deserve, but it's important to me to make sure that everybody who works on The Cleanists Season 2 gets paid something. So some of our money will go to giving people some compensation for the many days they'll spend making our show. Money will also go to props, and locations, and costumes. And it's not glamorous, but $4 per person per day will also go to providing sandwiches and cookies. The golden rule of film and TV is this: You may not be paying people much, but you absolutely must keep their stomachs full.
Luckily for us, all of our camera and sound equipment will be provided by the crew as part of their employment; otherwise we wouldn't be able to make the show at all. Some of our crew have already been chosen, and some will be hired when we raise the money. In terms of the individual who spends the most time on the project, that'll be our trusty, lonely editor, who will spend about four solid weeks putting the finished show together once we've shot it.

The Challenges
When you're shooting something as big as a ten-episode season, there are a lot of things that can go wrong. There can be equipment failures, cast or crew illnesses or schedule problems to contend with. The way to get around these things is by having a cast and crew who are capable of working like a well-oiled clockwork machine that makes clocks. We have that. Our team proved with Season 1 that we can make ten episodes, in a tight time frame, and we can make them pretty funny too. With this team, I know that if we have a bad day, they have the commitment and the skill to find a little extra in the tank and get us over the line.
In a way, when you have a team this good, it's almost like having multiple producers. If a location falls through, everyone will pitch in to find us another one at short notice. If a camera breaks, a crew member will have a back-up standing by. We're all fully invested in getting these ten episodes finished and out to viewers. As showrunner, I'm in the enviable position of knowing that, assuming we reach our funding goal, we absolutely will get this show made, no matter the obstacles.
