No American playwright has written more compellingly about the subtle ways in which people inflict pain on each other than Neil LaBute. His films In the Company of Men and Your Friends and Neighbors both gained critical renown for their biting satire and caustic wit. Now, with The Distance from Here, he has written his most riveting play yet, an intense look at the dark side of American suburbia. With little to occupy their time other than finding a decent place to hang out—the zoo, the mall, the school parking lot—Darrell and Tim are two American teenagers who lack any direction or purpose in their lives. When Darrell’s suspicion about the faithlessness of his girlfriend is confirmed and Tim comes to her defense, there is nothing to brake their momentum as all three speed toward disaster.

Poring over the budget, we’ve put on our serious faces and have used sober judgment to ensure that every single dollar works hard for us. The overall budget is coming in at $10K. For all of you curious ones out there, we have included a breakdown of the budget below.

First and foremost, this project wouldn’t be possible without the generously discounted resources and services quoted by our suppliers. We are humbled and thankful that we already have a community who believe in this Project and are actively supporting it. This support so far has come from The State Theatre Centre, Upstart Theatre Company, peers, family, professionals, specialists, makeup artists and costume makers...more on that later on in the campaign. We still have a long way to go! In order to bring this story to life we’re looking for the generosity of friends, family, friends-of-friends, family-of-friends, and complete strangers...who will then become friends! Having already raised a small part of the budget, we’re hoping to raise a further $3000 through crowdfunding. If we don’t reach the target, we won’t receive anything so we have settled for a conservative figure (relative to the budget). There’s no limit to the amount that we are allowed to raise through this campaign so yes, we hope that we surpass the $3000 mark.
