The Kings Collective present their debut season 'Lepidoptera: An Exploration of Youth' as part of Sydney Fringe 2014. Lepidoptera is a curated season of three plays by prolific American playwrights. Each play has their own one week season, with the entire season running from the 9-28 September at the TAP Gallery - Downstairs Theatre.

The three plays in our season are:

'Out of Gas on Lover's Leap' by Mark St. Germain.
9-14 September
Cast: David Harrison and Cecelia Peters.


'This is Our Youth' by Kenneth Lonergan.
16-21 September
Cast: Josh Brennan, Scott Lee and Georgia Scott. 


'Gruesome Playground Injuries' by Rajiv Joseph.
23-28 September
Cast: Aaron Glenane and Megan McGlinchey



The Kings Collective is a collective of young artists who aspire to change the face of the Australian Arts landscape. For us, this season is the first step on our journey of contributing the type of work we wish to see on the Australian stage. To deepen the often shallow pool of casting that currently exists in our industry and show the world that we don't need to wait to be given permission to do our jobs. 

This particular season of plays is a reflection of our generation, where we stand and what we want to say. With these stories we aim to explore the fragility of youth and the tenderness of the human condition in order to challenge our audience and bring them hope, compassion and joy.

One of our key goals is to be uncompromising in our vision which is to create and design work that is breathtaking, professional and important. In order to achieve a high quality of work and design we require some funds. We are offering our Guest Artists, Core Collective and Key Creatives a profit share from the productions but in order to get this season off the ground we require your generous donations and support.

Where will your donation be going?

Design: We have allocated a budget of $1000 per production for design. Including Set, Costume, Props and Lighting.

Fees: We have allocated a small fee for our designers that will come out of our Pozible donations. Without the work of these key creatives there would be no show.

Rights: The rights alone for these productions are upwards of $3,000 for a mere three weeks of performance.

Running Costs: With each show their is a certain amount of running costs that are required throughout the season. These include but are not limited to, perishable items such as: Food, Drink, Glass, Cigarettes etc.

Marketing Material: In order to fill our houses we need to create some exciting printed collateral. In order to design and print this material we will need at least $500.

Labour: The turn around from each season is very quick. 'Bumping-out' on Sunday and 'bumping-in' and 'Teching' on Monday for an opening night on Tuesday requires all hands on deck and we will need to provide these hands with food and finance in order to keep them going.
