For several years I have been working as a TV producer with an ambition to move into the areas of writing and directing. Last year I took the first step into this arena as writer / co-producer of 'The Possum's Club' a Saturday morning 30 minute show for kids on Prime 7. The experience of working with a 6 foot Possum was amazing! In just 52 weeks we produced 38 episodes! This experience certainly taught me the importance of delivering content to a deadline.

The next step in my writing / directing career came earlier this year when I received funding to work with Tim Ferguson on a pilot episode of a comedy script. The experience of working with Tim to develop the script has been very rewarding and very beneficial.

‘Turning the Corner’ for me is the next step in the continuing process of developing my career as a writer / director. This project is a step into narrative drama and came about after completing a writing course with Vicki Madden through AFTERS. The project was selected and awarded a small grant to be featured in the winter season of Screen ACT’s Short Season program, which is to be screened in October 2014 in Canberra. I am very excited to be working with such an experienced team of cast and crew on this project

Having an interest in social media I decided to explore the possibility of raising additional funds through crowd funding to improve the production. I first heard about Pozible last year when several film makers I know in Canberra successfully raised funding for their short films. I am very excited to be running my first campaign and hope it will be the first of many!

My intention is to make the best film I possibly can.  In order to do this I need additional cash!

Screen ACT have given me a small grant to make 'Turning the Corner', however I will be funding the lion share myself In order to get the best cast as well as the best crew possible. The funds raised will be used to increase the production values of the short.
The budget is a shoestring but I believe the finished product will reflect a production of a greater budget.

The biggest challenge for this project will be stepping out of my comfort zone of being a producer into the role of being the director.

Making a short film over two weekends, editing and getting it ready for screening in October will be a challenge, but I am for it!

I guess one of the real challenges is to make the best film I possibly can. In order to do this I have aimed to get the best cast and crew I can to make the process as smooth as possible.

I know one thing -  I don't know everything - but I do know that if I face a challenge I ask someone with more experience or a better understanding of the issues in order to overcome the obstacles.

As the writer / director my overarching challenge is to get my vision across to the team and get this vision transformed into a watchable product that is artistically and technically the best I can do. I look forward to the challenge and look forward to your support.
