On Islands : Eramboo Festival

Islands conjure many romantic notions of the exotic, treasures lost and found, adventure, romance, isolation, mystery, hardship. They have been the muse of artists, writers, musicians, scientists and explorers. For many, Islands are a place of escape. Somewhere that provides time and space for thinking and reflecting. Somewhere that affords anonymity, seclusion, rest or retreat. We all live on islands, real or virtual, tiny, remote, large, connected. Island residents adapt to the pace and rhythm of their Islands. They are resourceful, using the limited resources they have to respond to meeting their needs. Innovation and community are necessary for survival. We can learn from visiting other islands, sharing experiences and iterating approaches. On Islands Eramboo aims to enagage it's audiences to question the social, economic, political, philosophical, , disciplinary, cultural, environmental and physical islands in which they dwell.

Curator, Selena Griffith, from UNSW: Art & Dsign (formerly COFA), is working with the project collaboration participants and Eramboo Directors Susan Milne and Greg Stonehouse to produce and deliver the project. This is one of the most ambitious cultural projects to be held on the Northern Beaches. On Islands Eramboo it is regionally significant and has attracted a diverse group of participants from 3 continents and many islands. Such an event will bring hundreds of visitors to the area across its duration.
In order to make the On Islands project a success we need your assistance. We are looking for individuals and businesses to become donors to our event. Each level of support affords some special On Island privileges. Package details and ways to donate are on the right hand side of this page.

All donations are tax deductible as Eramboo Artist Environment is a non-profit artist organisation with DRG status.
Eramboo is a place where art practice, in purpose built studios, runs parallel with the creative process of art making for students and practitioners of all levels. It offers affordable non-residential studios, an exhibition space and teaching rooms to beginners, emerging and established contemporary artists, craft practitioners and creative industry professionals locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. We are very excited about delivering this regionally significant cultural event and look forward to your support of ‘On Islands’.

The Challenges
We have the ability to deliver On Islands as things stand, from the resources within our community. With the right amount of additional resources, however, we can deliver a bigger, better festival to a larger audience with greater impact.
Challenge 1 : Preparing the site and the works.
This is currently being funded by artists in their project teams. With additional funding we can look at larger scale works, with better quality materials.

Challenge 2: Promoting the Festival and associated events, workshops, talks and tours.
We have a limited budget for promotion. With additional funding we can explore more varied avenues for promotion to larger audiences.

Challenge 3: Documentation of the On Islands Eramboo Festival.
We will be producing a passport, site map, catalog, webpage and book for On Islands Eramboo. These activities are currently relying on volunteers to design and deliver them. The more budget we have the more we can put into polishing and producing these with more detail.
