Have you ever planted beans in July and wondered why they didn't come up? I have, once. Or transplanted coriander in December and wondered why it bolted to seed so quickly? I always plant it in Autumn now, with the peas.

If you're new to growing your own food, or new to growing in Tasmania, it can help to have a friendly guide for what to plant when. Even seasoned gardeners can use a memory prompt sometimes . . . like "its time to get the codling moth traps out!".

Enter the FIMBY seasonal garden calendar! Sumptuous photos, monthly guides on what to plant, recipes, and features about how to make compost, and what's green manure all about, and more. So much more! This is focused on the questions that people have kept asking us over the last six years of helping people grow food in Southern Tasmania.

Sure, there are a gazillion online guides, and the radio, and magazines galore . . . but sometimes you want a good old fashioned paper calendar to hang up near the phone, or desk, or kitchen bench. Where you can make a note of the first frost for the season, and when you picked the first broad beans, and how many kgs of tomatoes were turned into sauce this year.

Our calendar will be a perpetual one, so you can accumulate your own stats year after year, and begin to create a valuable localised resource for yourself. When did you plant your tomatoes? When did you pick your first snow peas? And how many kilos of zucchini pickles did you make?

Our design is being done by the lovely and talented Andy Townsend, of the gorgeous Antarctic Calendar fame, so the calendars will be lush! These will make gorgeous Christmas presents for friends and family.

HUGE thanks to Philip Bohm for his patience and talent in making our video for this campaign.

How The Funds Will Be Used

We aim to print around 1000 calendars, and if they are all sold, we'll cover our design and print costs which total around $9000.  It might take a little while to sell the calendars however, and the costs need to be paid up front. And we'd really like to have some to give away when we're working with schools and community groups.

We'll use local printers so we can support local business, and actually eyeball the people handling our job.

If we reach our target of $3000, roughly half will go to paying part of the design and the rest to print costs.

If we exceed our target, we can print more calendars, and have more extras as giveaways at events during next year. Woot!

The Challenges

If we don't make our Pozible target, we'll go ahead with printing anyway (and get a new credit card) so you'll be able to purchase them in December.

Thankyou card with seeds!

A heartfelt thankyou, written on a card made from hand-made paper, that has SEEDS in it! So you can read the card, feel good, then plant it and see what grows!

Rabbit poo for you

2 Big feed bags stuffed full of rabbit cage litter. It includes grass hay and rabbit poo and wee. Fantastic for composting or the worm farm, or lay it on thick around summer vegies like corn, tomatoes, pumpkins as a feeding mulch. The grass hay may contain some seeds, so if you don't compost it before use, keep an eye on it and turn in any little weeds or grass seedlings early.
