Hello! We're Bagabus Inc, two writer-performers who work across stage, screen, and radio. We're bringing our new show, THE JACOBEANS, to Melbourne's largest celebration of queer arts, culture, and community - the Midsumma Festival - in 2015.

THE JACOBEANS is our way of holding a satirical mirror up to the political and social landscape of contemporary Australia. As two young queer artists, we noticed that many of our social values are becoming increasingly conservative and reactionary - reminiscent of a more primitive era, where thinking was discouraged, and people in positions of power were absolute and infallible. Using the historical Jacobean era as a launching point, our new play examines the way our social values have evolved and shifted over time - especially in regards to the roles of gender in our society - and what this might mean for us in the future.

Of course, if this all sounds very heady, don't worry - we're doing this in the most accessible, fun way possible! With characters drawn across all corners of space and time - such as Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, Joan of Arc, and Julie Andrews - the show is a scathingly satirical, insistently imaginative, and provocatively pertinent comedy about the Dark Ages we lived in... and the one we still inhabit.

Our target of $400 is to help us realise some of the more ambitious tech elements of the show. While most costs of the show are covered under our existing budget (paid for by us), this extra money will enable us to transform our venue, Club Voltaire, into a truly theatrical performance space through: the rental of extra lights and atmospheric effects; attaining musical rights for performance; and the employment of a lighting technician to consult on our show. (This last one is particularly important, since Jack won't be able to tech, cos he'll be playing a sloth in the show.)

Bagabus Inc thrives on challenge, and we pride ourselves on using the tools and elements at our disposal to produce work of a consistently high personal and professional standard. Should we fail to reach our target, that's absolutely fine - while we've planned for our ideal theatrical situation, we know that there is always a creative solution to every problem, no matter how large or how small. We will work extra hard to bring you our most ambitious show to date, and the show we always intended to bring you :)
