Following the journey of Adelaide-born Josh Bonython, Repeater Productions are traveling to Japan to film their first major project. Leaving in January 2015 the crew will spend a month in Tokyo and on the islands of Okinawa. Chasing the Fountain of Youth,  Josh will be observing and interviewing some of the oldest souls on the planet as a part of the documentary series “Neverland" (formerly "Longevity").

Okinawa is known for the long lives of its inhabitants and has been nicknamed “the Land of Immortals”. The documentary set is immaculate and audiences can expect incredible scenery coupled with in-depth conversations with people who have the knowledge and wisdom of a century. Uncovering the incredible stories of the oldest people in the world, Josh will be learning first-hand how to live a long, happy life.

Enjoying his mid-twenties in Australia, Josh is your typical 24-year old lad from Adelaide. Through his journey, he will be put on a strict Okinawan diet and exercise regime. After 24 years of indulgence, Josh’s body and mind will be pushed to the limits while he adapts to a simpler way of life.

Repeater Productions aims to uncover the secrets to a happy and healthy life by going straight to the source. Why is it this generation of Japanese, who have lived through wars, famine and poverty living to such old ages? And what can we all learn something from this generation of survivors?

Josh in Okinawa makes up a third of the planned documentary mini-series. Repeater intends on traveling to Sardinia and Costa Rica to film Part 2 & 3, where a similar situation is occurring and release the 30-minute documentaries as a package. This gives audiences a well-rounded understanding of longevity regions across the globe, and offers proven strategies to improving ones health and wellbeing.

How The Funds Will Be Used

As you could imagine, traveling around Japan with a film crew is expensive. We are doing this documentary on a shoe-string budget and have already contributed personally.

Your contribution will go towards:
Accommodation
Insurance
Internal transport in Japan (flights, car hire, train passes)
Translators
Living expenses (we all have to eat!)
Filming permits
New camera gear (to make it look beautiful)

The Challenges

LANGUAGE: Having traveled to Japan before, we recognise that the language barrier will make the project challenging. We intend on hiring a translator when conducting interviews, but of course - translators don't come cheap!

MONEY: Japan is not a cheap place to travel in. Living costs and accommodation will be similarly priced to that in Australia. We will need to ensure we have enough money to sustain 4 people for a month... This is where you come in ;)

ACCESS TO THE OLD PEOPLE: Extensive research has been conducted over the past 40 years into the lives of the Okinawan people. They have been poked, prodded and interviewed many times. Repeater needs to go through the appropriate channels for interviews. We have already started working with the Japanese Filming Commission to overcome any obstacles in-terms of accessing the old people!
