At Queensland Writers Centre (QWC) we love stories. We love the writers and the readers who give them life. We love the way they let us reach into ourselves and out to others. Throughout the ages, stories have helped shaped our lives. And yet there are many stories and voices still to be heard.

To mark our 25th Anniversary, QWC is launching the inaugural Scholarships and Access Fund. The goal is to provide funding and travel support to writers from diverse backgrounds - to help them engage with QWC programs and access creative and professional development that might otherwise be unavailable for financial and/or geographic reasons. The Scholarships and Access Fund aims to deliver bursaries and travel stipends for writers to attend QWC workshops and seminars, masterclasses, work experience placements, networking events, and/or writing and publication residencies. Supporting the artistic and business development of local writers, we aim to expand their opportunities to share their work more widely. You can help make this happen.

Support the future of Queensland writing by donating to the QWC Scholarships and Access Fund.

The Scholarships and Access Fund aims to encourage voices less heard. Writers to benefit from the program include, for example: young writers; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) writers; writers who identify as living with a disability; female writers; lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, transgender, intersexual and queer-identifying (LGBTTIQ) writers; writers from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds; and writers from remote or regional Queensland.

With your support, QWC’s Scholarships and Access Fund will help to encourage and share the diverse stories of voices less heard.

How The Funds Will Be Used

From 2016, QWC aims to roll-out a THREE YEAR program which delivers subsidies and travel grants to no less than SIXTY WRITERS. That’s twenty writers each year – from across the state, from diverse walks of life – who will be given the opportunity to participate in a personalised program of QWC training and events. Our long-term goal is to establish the Scholarships and Access Fund as a legacy program that continues to give for many years to come. But one step at a time. With your help, we can launch the Scholarships and Access Fund with confidence.

We invite you – our members, friends and supporters – to celebrate 25 years of QWC and the future of Queensland writing with a pledge of $25 within 25 days. A pledge to our crowdfunding campaign – 25/25/25 – will help to establish the QWC Scholarships and Access Fund and deliver the first year’s benefits to 20 WRITERS. With your help, we can provide subsidies and travel grants to diverse Queensland writers, enabling them to participate in valuable development opportunities with QWC.

The budget below outlines the anticipated expenditure and income for the Fund’s inaugural year:

Your support through this crowdfunding campaign gets us a full-third toward our yearly budget. And with the Plus 1 matched funding from Creative Partnerships Australia, we’re actually 2/3 the way there.

Thank you for your support. Every dollar helps to establish the inaugural QWC Scholarships and Access Fund. Every dollar helps to make a difference to the future of Queensland writers today.

Celebrate 25 years of QWC. Give to the future of Queensland writing. Donate $25 within 25 days.

The Challenges

Our major risk is to fall short of the fundraising target. But with your support, this risk is reduced. As you can see from the budget above, we have a realistic approach to the Fund’s development. Most importantly, our major challenge – fundraising – is mitigated by something called “challenge” (or matched) funding.

Thanks to Creative Partnerships Australia’s Plus1 program, every dollar you give to this campaign will be matched dollar for dollar, provided we reach our campaign target of $10,000. This effectively doubles the value of your gift – and significantly reduces the risk of falling below our fundraising target.
