Hi! I am Astral Skulls - a solo musician based in Melbourne, Australia. I have finally made the album that I really wanted to make, and would love your help releasing it on 12" vinyl. The album is called Contact:Light. I finished recording the album in May this year, and it is currently being mixed by my favourite producer, Jonathan Snipes (Captain Ahab/clipping.), with album artwork being done by the incredible designer, artist and photographer Hon Boey.

Over the past year or so I have put lots of Astral Skulls' tracks online for free. They've been recorded and mixed by myself in my bedroom, and I've loved the process of writing and recording everything on my own. That said, i'm really excited about getting other people involved. This has already begun with my self-funded 7" record (the Sexism Sux / Bite My Tongue single), which was mixed and mastered by Mikey Young and will be available from 7 July via astralskulls.com. The next step is my album, Contact:Light.


I have started my own record label, Psychic Hysteria Recordings, to release my 7" and the album. I also plan on releasing other acts through the label, with a few already in the pipeline. I have had this label in mind for a while, and it's exciting to be able to use it to share my music, and music made by some of my favourite bands, in the very near future.

The album Contact:Light means a lot to me for a number of reasons. I have written so many songs over so many years, but Astral Skulls is the first solo project that I've shared publicly.

There are 12 songs on the album, each telling a different story about contact with outer space - a lifelong love of mine. The A side explores first contact with alien visitors, how we respond, and leaving Earth. The B side is after we leave Earth, what we encounter in space and how we survive. Each track is a different story and perspective of these themes.

I love that I am doing this all on my own, but I just need some cash to get things on their way at this point and that's where you (hopefully) come in! There are lots of ways to support the release, all with great rewards. Every little bit counts, and every contribution is appreciated more than you'll ever know.

This Pozible campaign will help me to pay for the vinyl pressing, as well as some t-shirts and to help with production and postage costs. The $4,000 target won't completely pay for production and pressing, but will be enough to get the project done and records into the hands of supporters and fans.

If I reach above my target, it will help with finalising production, as well as postage costs, printing and travel for the launch tour happening in November 2015.

Being a DIY musician, everything is a challenge, really, but every problem that I've faced so far has been overcome by being patient and putting in most of my spare time and energy to getting things figured out. That said, I've had a lot of support from friends - especially other musicians who have been through all of this before - and my family.

This project is sound, though there are bound to be problems such as working out how to pay for things here and there. That said, if I can reach my target and know that my record will be made, I will face each hurdle as it comes.
