A lot's happened in a few short weeks. We have a new PM for a start. The jury is out on whether or not he'll help Mummy & Mumma to get married, but we'll see.
And, in the life of our little project, here's what's happened:
We discovered something amazing - this will be the first children's picture book to be published in Australia with a same-sex family at the centre. We know we said that at the top of this page, but it bears repeating, doesn't it?!
Over 90 primary schools have been nominated by members of the public (that's you!) to receive free books.
Primary school teacher and former educational book editor, Karen Becker, donated her time to create a brilliant set of teacher's notes and activities to go with the book. These notes are great for families too, to help with ways to talk about the issues the book raises. All books will now automatically come with a set of these notes and activities.
We've raised more than $5000 to contribute towards the cost of making the book (it won't cover our costs, but it's sure gonna help).
Over 150 amazing people have backed our project.

'Mummy and Mumma Get Married' started life as our small contribution to the campaign for marriage equality. But then we had a better idea. What if we could crowdfund and donate copies of the book to primary school libraries, meaning that schools all over Australia could get this book for FREE. How fantastic would that be. This little book could suddenly make a big difference to kids' lives.
Back to Phoebe for a second. Her story is sweet, simple and a little bit cheeky. It’s beautifully illustrated by Melbourne-based artist Cara King, playfully designed by award-winning children’s book designer Natalie Winter and published to exceptionally high professional standards by boutique publishing house, Captain Honey.

The best bit about this campaign so far has been receiving the school nominations. At the end of the campaign, we are proud to have 115 schools nominated to receive free books. How The Funds Will Be Used
We are creating the content and paying to produce the book ourselves - that means we are paying for the illustrator and for an editor to work with us on the text. Between Natalie and I, we will design and promote the book.
We’ll use the money we raise from this campaign to manufacture the books and get them into as many school libraries as we can. You’ll help us with this if you choose the $15 reward for a signed copy of the book to be sent to the school library of your choice (or the $30 reward which includes this and a book for you too).
The cost of manufacturing books varies a lot depending how many are printed. The more you print, the less it costs per copy. You'll see this logic reflected in our rewards breakdown, because we charge less per copy if you order more books. We hope to have thousands of copies to print as a result of this campaign. We've set an initial target of $5000, which will allow us to make a great start.
