Help An Important Yarn Go Viral

NOTE TO DONORS: We reached our target in less than 12 hours... which is both extremely gratifying, and humbling. Thank you!

Any additional funds raised will be invested in continuing to chase this story - there's quite a bit to come. Thom Mitchell has begun 'alternative lines of inquiry' (we don't want to telegraph them, so shhhh!), and if we raise enough funds we'll look at sending Thom to Darwin to continue the pursuit (but with the caveat that he will need to secure a permit to visit the Tiwis). We're also lodging more FOIs this week... and we'll keep you posted on how the story unfolds. Thank you so much for your support :)

Earlier this week, New Matilda broke a major story- based on Freedom of Information documents - which revealed that the federal department of environment sat back and watched the massive expansion of a $130 million sea port adjoining a sensitive waterway (in a remote Aboriginal community) , without any environmental oversight.

With the exception of an ABC radio report, the story has been ignored by mainstream media. Quelle surprise.

We need your help to:

(a) keep pursuing it (we have lodged additional FOI requests).

(b)  make it go viral, through social media advertising.

We've relied on help to make our stories go viral once before. In March when we revealed leaked documents from the Moss review showed the Abbott Government had lied about the lead-up to riots on Manus Island, and that Minister Scott Morrison was "shit scared" about the situation, media ignored that story too. Contributions saw us advertise the story widely on social media, and it received more than 50,000 reads.

How The Funds Will Be Used

Half of the funds raised will be used to 'boost' the story on Facebook and Twitter.

The other half of the funds will be used to continue pursuing the story, including paying for further FOI lodgements.

If we raise more than the target, we'll use the funds to send Thom Mitchell to Darwin... and really 'get amongst it!'
