TEAM AUSTRALIA: Stories from Fairfield is a refreshing and honest reflection of the diversity and idiosyncratic identities of the young people that make up the Powerhouse Youth Theatre Ensemble. Funny, irreverent and inescapably political, TEAM AUSTRALIA reveals a collective identity that reflects the truth of our country.

Working in Fairfield, Australia’s most culturally diverse suburb, the Ensemble of remarkable young performers collectively speaks seven different languages, bringing together a diversity of stories and perspectives. There’s Mahdi, an Afghani hipster from Kabul, and Barbara, the 16 year-old dynamo who moved here from Argentina. Monica, who revels in surprisingly vulgar comedy, Luke the dramaturg musical theatre sports receptionist, David our latin actor, film maker and big brother and Amanda who is a marketing whiz and ice cream enthusiast.. All of them have amazing stories to tell, and they bring them together to ‘play the game’ in TEAM AUSTRALIA through performance, narrative, song and verbatim text.

Our Ensemble have been working incredibly hard over the past year, alongside PYT Artistic Director Karen Therese and Associate Artists Kym Vercoe (Version 1.0, Theatre Kantanka) and Sean Bacon (Version 1.0, Belvoir, STC) to create TEAM AUSTRALIA, and now we need your help to finish it. We have been in development for over a year writing, devising and working with some of Sydney's best performers, writers, and choreographers - now we need your help to cover the cost of staging the final production.

We will premiere at Powerhouse Youth Theatre, Fairfield in October 2015 and then head to the Australian Theatre for Young People in the city as part of their Cameo Series.
