Evolving out of research into transcendental filmmaking, '6 Steps to Eternal Death' explores cinema as an art form with the ability to engage its audience on a deeper level. The film follows a family undergoing a 6-step process to enable the wife and mother of one to come to terms with the fact she is dead.
'6 Steps to Eternal Death' speaks to an audience seeking something in-between arthouse cinema and conventional ‘Hollywood’ fare. By drawing on the conventions of transcendental cinema, this particular fusion of technique, style, genre and approach to filmmaking provides an opportunity to establish a profound connection with the audience.
This short film is the graduating project of Peter T Nathan, a Creative Arts (Film & TV) Honours degree student at Deakin University, however this will be a highly collaborative undertaking. We are fortunate to have a dedicated and experienced cast and crew who are committed to sharing this journey and believe that this style of filmmaking will make a unique contribution to Australian cinema.

Peter T Nathan - Producer/Writer/Director
Peter’s career spans over 25 years in the film and TV industry. During this time he has been fortunate enough to work alongside many talented people as an assistant director and director. An AFI nominated for Best Episode for a TV series in 1999 highlighted Peter’s first major directing contract with ‘Home and Away’. An additional six month stint on ‘Shortland Street (NZ) built a total drama slate to over 60 hours of episodic television – building a strong foundation and an appreciation of budget, time restraints and story-telling. His introduction to one-hour television was directing the final block of ‘The Tribe’ (UK), a Children’s Sci-Fi TV Series. Responsibilities included guiding all major story lines to their conclusion and introducing a climatic ending to cliff hang into the next series. This experience followed on from an expansive career which included a long list of 1st Assistant Directing credits for international films and award winning Australian drama. Peter has just recently graduated in an Advanced Diploma of Professional Screenwriting at RMIT with High Distinctions and currently undertaking an Honours Degree (Creative Arts) in film at Deakin University. This project utilises many of the theories that Peter has researched during his degree.
Regan Aarons – Producer
Undertaking the final units of her Bachelor of Film & Digital Media at DeakinUniversity, Regan is always working on numerous projects in pursuit of new experiences. Following a semester of study abroad at C.U.N.Y. Hunter College (New York City, USA), Regan found her passion for television development, which has largely informed her current work as a researcher and writer for The Female Unique, an upcoming Channel 31 series on Melbourne’s young female creatives. Her recently completed third year project, ‘Miss Fortune’, saw Regan’s debut as a short film producer. Regan now looks forward to applying this recent experience on '6 Steps to Eternal Death' , and is relishing the opportunity to learn from an experienced crew as the project develops further.
David Williams - Director of Photography
David Williams is an ACS Award winning cinematographer with broad experience in a number of artistic and technical disciplines covering film, television, theatre and live music. He currently works as a freelance cinematographer, camera and steadicam operator, with numerous features, television series, documentaries and TVCs to his credit. He also has a strong interest in pursuing a future career as a writer/director, and has a number of projects that he intends to see produced.
Previously he has worked extensively backstage in professional theatre, on shows such as Phantom Of The Opera and Show Boat and for many years in the live music industry. David is a Full Member of the Australian Cinematography Society, and has been on the Victoria Branch Committee for six years.
Basil Krivoroutchko - Sound Recordist
Basil is an Australian based sound recordist working both domestically and internationally. His career started as a Paramount Pictures intern on US productions that swayed him to the sound department. His body of work includes award winning documentaries, television commercials, short and feature length films. Always looking for a challenge, and enjoys a diversity of
work.
Kim Ritchie - Production Designer
Kim is an artist and designer who works across the mediums of theatre, painting and film. Having graduated from postgraduate study in set and costume design at the VCA in 2012 she has since filled her time production designing short films and music videos, working in independent theatre around Melbourne, styling events and festivals and working for Channel 9.

How The Funds Will Be Used
This project is born out of a deep love for art and film and a desire to blend them together in such a way that the finished work produces a profound cinematic experience. To realise such a challenging project requires the dedication of a group of people (both cast and crew) who are willing to volunteer both their time and experience. Financial support will not only provide meals and the production items required to realise this project, but it will also help bolster moral in knowing that what we are all working towards is being recognised by others.
The equipment is being provided by David Williams and Deakin University.
The target we have set will pay for;
Meals (15 crew/cast x 2 meals per day for 5 shooting days) - $750.00
Art Department (props, set dressings, car hire, smoke machine etc) - $1,500.00
Additional Equipment Insurance - $50.00
Location fees & Safety Report - 500.00
Petrol & - $400.00
Pozible fees - $300.00
TOTAL $3,500.00
This budget covers the absolute necessities.
In the event we are fortunate enough to raise above our target, those funds will be directly assigned to;
Film colour grade and Sound mix - $1,200.00
Film Festival marketing items and entrance fees - $1,000.00

The Challenges
This kind of cinema is not new and might be considered to be an alternative European style. Peter’s idea to bring this style of cinema to the Australian public will be a challenge and he is the first to admit that this kind of film is not going to appeal to everyone. But for those who are tired of the limitations and controlling form of storytelling seen in many ‘Hollywood’ films, or those who just wish to broaden their appreciation of cinema, this might be just the project worth following.
The believability of the story-world depends on visuals and soundscape. Our challenge is to design a unique world that enables the story to unfold in a way that profoundly engages the viewer, and resonates in a spiritual way. We believe that a delicate balance between the actor's performance, production design, cinematography, and locations is critical in achieving this.
With our cast and crew's collective experience, access, and perspective, we have all the survival skills necessary to get us over the line. We are a resourceful lot and one way or another the film will be completed with a high degree of craftsmanship.

We are extremely grateful for your support and will provide you with two exclusive passwords; A password to a development and production blog that details the methodology and processes untaken, and A password to view the film online during its 12 month (approx. ) festival run. Note: During the festival run the film will not be available to the public.

In addition to the previous reward, a digital download of the completed film will be available after the festival run. Also a special thank you credit at the end of the film.

Step 3: "Acceptance"
Your generosity will not go unnoticed. As well as the two previous rewards, you will be entitled to a signed DVD of the film and an invitation to attend the private cast and crew screening being held in Melbourne. Note: Accommodation and travel is not included.

Step 4: "Surrendering"
This serious support, as well as receiving all the above rewards, will include a special event screening of the finished film, including a presentation on the processes and methodology used with a Q&A. This package also includes an extra role in the film. Note: The extra role in this package is only available prior to principle photography. It will be unavailable after 23th November, 2015.

As well as receiving all the previous reward packages, you will receive a film poster identical to the one used in the festival run and an Executive Producer credit on the film.
