Who we are?

We are two Australians from Melbourne who have had the motivation and drive to set out to work and travel and experience as many cultures as possible. This latest adventure we have set ourselves is by far the most ambitious and challenging to date. By completing this adventure we would like to show our communities that two average people with no previous experience, can set a goal and work together to achieve it.
What is Totally Tandem?
Totally Tandem is a self-funded tandem bicycle adventure to challenge our selves physically and mentally riding from Vancouver- Canada to Santiago-Chile in support of World Bicycle Relief.
What inspired this project?
The idea of travel and challenge has always been a big part of who we are. The inspiration to travel South America by bicycle seems like a natural progression to us, combining our love of travel and adding in new elements of challenge that will test us throughout this adventure.
As the project has developed over the past two years, a new motivation has kept us focused on a bigger picture. We are more motivated than ever to step outside the comfort zones and inspire others to do the same.
As part of our planning, we have become invested in working to raise money for World Bicycle Relief. We are using our platform of cycling from Canada to Chile to help a fantastic organization to provide a sustainable change in the lives of many African communities.
Recently we have had the opportunity to talk with students from the primary students right through to some senior classes in the international school system. These sessions have added even greater challenges to us as individuals, but have also given us a little insight into the benefits we can bring to the younger generations along our journey. By inspiring others through our project we hope we can, not only change the lives of those through our charity work, but also challenge and inspire lives in different school situations.
Our Goals
The major goal and focus on this adventure is to achieve our financial targets for World Bicycle Relief.
However, we also have a secondary goal that has developed with this project. That is, to have the ability to generate and store enough power to remain off the grid for the entire trip. This part of the research has been time consuming but also very interesting and hopefully rewarding if we can work a practical solution. It has led us to combine the use of solar and pedal power to be able to have enough power to supply all of our growing number of electronic gadgets with power. As the bike touring community grows and the use of electronics on tour rises, we have found there is a lack of resources and information out there to work with. We are hoping that by blogging about our experiences, we can help fill this void, adding knowledge to the bike touring community for others to expand upon.
What can you do?
This is where we
would love the support of the pozible community. We would love support to help
us achieve these goals so we are reaching out to ask for assistance in covering just a
part of the start-up costs of this self -funded project.
Adventuring is expensive business.
Just to get the gear that we need to get pedaling will cost us around $12,000 USD, $9,000 of that is just the cost of the bike!
A lot of people have mentioned that they would like to help out by offering some support, but as all the gear we need is so super expensive it's kinda hard. So we thought we would create our Pozible target with the aim of covering one third of the bike and reach for $3,000. That way, all contributors can know that we are doing this mission on a bike funded partly by them!
To help us reach our target, we encourage you to make a pledge and share this page with your friends and family.
Post this page www.pozible.com/totallytandem to facebook and sign up to our web page www.totallytandem.com, to keep track of our progress and what we are up to over the next 18 months.
The greater the support network, the greater our chances are of reaching our charity goal; supplying 100 bicycles for World Bicycle Relief; $13,400.
It will also give us greater opportunity to spend more time with different schools along the way to promote the idea of ‘doing what you love’.
Any support that you can give will help us to achieve this goal, is an investment in a fantastic charity, that will bring us closer to realizing our dream.
Thank you for your time in reading and we hope you appreciate what we are trying to achieve.
Cheers
