My name is Ali Barter. I am a musician from Melbourne. Last year I independently recorded my debut EP 'Trip' with producer Matik. This caught the attention of broadcaster triple j, who played the first single 'Run You Down' (check out the amazing video clip we made for this here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnrwULoNd2w), leading to a slot at the Melbourne Laneway Festival. Since then I have put together a band and we have supported acts including Cloud Control, Alpine, The Rubens and Vance Joy.

Earlier this year, I began working with guitarist/producer Oscar Dawson. Over the last 6 months, we have been playing shows and demoing new songs. It is now time to record my debut full-length album.



Here's the pitch:

Our plan is to record a 12-track album in September with Brisbane-based producer Matt Redlich. Matt has worked with some of the finest artists in Australia, including Emma Louise and Ball Park Music. He works out of his studio 'Grandma's Place', recording direct to 2-inch tape and creating a warm, analog tone. This computer-less environment is perfect for the sound that we have been developing. We will record live, we will keep only the final takes, and we won't seek perfection through digital editing.

Unfortunately, recording to tape ain't cheap. The equipment is hard to run and parts don't come easy, not to mention the tape itself. We've budgeted as follows:

- $10,000 to record 12-tracks at 'Grandma's Place'.
- $4,000 to mix tracks.
- $1,000 to master album.

We will be driving ourselves up to Brisbane with our band, guitars, amps and Wurlitzer in tow and we will be covering all the costs of our travel and living expenses whilst recording the album.

I am a fully independent, self-funded and self-managed artist. I rely on the support of my fans, family and friends to keep this project alive, and with your kind generosity, I hope to fund this independent recording. Thank you.

Some risks we will face include constant funding, but we believe with this kickstart we can overcome these challenges. How our music is received by the public is also a risk/challenge but, again, with persistence this challenge can be mitigated. We are confident in our material enough to feel that an audience will exist to receive it.
