Seizure has big plans for next year and we need the help of our supporters to make it happen. First comes the site upgrade, then we are going to introduce all new content from up-and-coming authors and some of our existing favourites, then we're going to unleash our brain-children and help populate the writing and publishing community of Australia. We don't need much, just enough to get the coders out of bed. $5000 is the target.

It’s going to look something like this and will be a balance of free-to-all and members-only content. The members-only area is where all the best stuff is happening, you get to read everything Seizure puts out in its entirety, free entry to competitions, discounts on Seizure events, and you become part of our growing community of editors, publishers, photographers, illustrators and writers.
What about the magazine?
No, not at all. But we are evolving. ‘Sport’ will likely be the final issue of the print magazine as you know it, but it doesn’t mean the end of us making beautiful products. We know that many people love our full-colour spreads and the fun and challenging writing we publish in the mag – we love it too – but we have a raft of different projects on the boil which will result in new collections; this includes the inaugural 'Stories of Sydney' collection that is now in development with Sweatshop; the 2014 Viva la Novella winners, and, if we get enough support, we will create a yearly anthology featuring all the best work our community has produced – or in other words, a bigger and phatter magazine.

A brief history of Seizure
Check out these sweet production values :)

Seizure magazine has quickly become a part of the Australian literary landscape with its emphasis on humour, irreverence and must-attend events. For our first launch we handed out flavour-bending miracle berries and challenged BlackStar Pastry man, Christopher Thé to create a menu for people with altered tastebuds.

For the Sci-fi issue we served ration bags of future-food including Soylent Green jellies, phlogiston pop and a strange liquid in a test tube…and let's not forget the Andorian Ale.

A high-point was definitely the launch of our 'Music' issue, where Edward Deer and friends brought the tunes to newly opened art-space 107 Projects. It was packed!
But it hasn't all just been about the magazine. In 2013 we ran a novella competition and were genuinely impressed by the volume and quality of entries we received. We were delighted to publish Jane Jervis-Read's Midnight Blue and Endlessly Tall which was launched by Cate Kennedy. In 2014 we are expanding the competition to have four winning editors who will each select a manuscript from the submissions and we will publish four novellas.

Seizureonline, our web presence, has been steadily evolving as we've explored new streams of content, such as podcasts, The Obstructions and the popular Flashers. This has laid the groundwork for 2014 where all the content Seizure makes will come out though the new website.
The Challenges
In 2013 we have started multiple projects that give authors valuable exposure, develop their networks and find opportunities to get paid. Viva la Novella 2 is off and running, with a $1000 prize and full-on publication. But we are holistic when it comes to publishing. We have instituted an ongoing series of projects for guest editors looking for experience and training in working with authors and their content. As part of this program, we’ve launched an initiative, with the support of the Copyright Agency, Stepping Stones is for ambitious editors looking to become fully-fledged publishers.

This is part of our multi-pronged approach to increase the opportunities for industry experience for those working in and around publishing. We also bring in people right at the beginning of their careers to work with us – such as on our Flash Fiction project and on our upcoming AltTxt segment which will be unveiled shortly. We’re future-proofing our website so the money you invest now will mean that we can devise all kinds of new projects in the future and still find a place for them in our online hub.
