The Melbourne Gay and Lesbian Youth Chorus is a one-of-a-kind group, providing a safe space for young people to be themselves, whatever their sexual orientation or gender identity.
Our Same Love concert on November 10th 2013 (3:30pm at 75 on Reid, 75 Reid St Fitzroy North) will be a celebration of love, in all of its nuances, similarities and beauty. Come and support us, and you'll experience an evening of uplifting music, in the knowledge that the proceeds for the evening will go towards MGLYC's community outreach work and continued inclusion of all young people, no matter who they love.
MGLYC will be collaborating with MASSIVE Fam (formerly MASSIVE hip-hop choir), Melbourne's first hip hop choir. This group of 14 talented young singers, rappers, beatboxers and song writers will share the stage with us to present songs that we have taught each other. We are grateful and excited to experience this new dimension in our show.

How The Funds Will Be Used
Your support will allow our Same Love concert to go ahead. At a time when marriage equality is being recognised the world over, while Australia lags behind, this concert is especially important. This concert is an opportunity for all our members to be out and proud, in an environment filled with supportive faces. It also makes a statement to young people attending the concert that there is a place for them in the community where their diversity is cherished and supported.
All remaining proceeds will go towards the continued running of MGLYC, including our community outreach work. The MGLYC supports the wider community through performances in community centres, schools, Pride Days, youth groups, aged-care facilities, and for charity concerts. Your generous donations assist us continuing to reach the most vulnerable and isolated members of our community.

The Challenges
Our greatest challenge is meeting the rising costs of putting on concerts and outreach performances, including venue hire, transportation, staff costs, music performance licenses, and purchasing sheet music.
We want to continue to be an inclusive community group, that welcomes all young people regardless of socio-economic background. As a result, membership fees are maintained at concession rates and struggling members may apply for a fee waiver.
Support from the community allows us to continue to be financially accessible to all young people.
