What is 2XX FM?
2XX FM is Canberra’s local and independent radio station. Our content draws from a broad arc through innumerable ACT niches and communities, with no voice or taste unaccounted for.
LocalnLive, every weekday afternoon, offers an interactive local music show featuring live interviews and performances. Sovereign 98.3, weekday mornings, offers the best Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander radio digest in the ACT.
What is Radiothon 2013?
2XX FM has grown dramatically over the last year and is now a force to be reckoned with on Canberra’s airwaves. But with support, it could do more. And what it does do, it could do better. This project is about invigorating independent radio with the chutzpah it craves.
We need to raise funds to take 2XX FM to the next level, to turn it up a notch.
Okay, but what’s the plan and how do we know 2XX FM has what it takes?
Over the past 12 months the station has expanded like the universe in all directions at breakneck speed. We've gone through a lot of changes to bring you new music, empower minority communities and bring an alternative voice to Canberra. We have so much planned for 2013 and beyond, we just need a little help from you, thoughtful citizen and kind samaritan.
Let’s break it down - Where will we actually be spending the money?
Music
We want to engage local music mavens to produce more specialty music programs. We want to integrate an AMRAP "Airlt" page into our website, which would allow us to maintain contact with local artists and notify them when their music is played.
Indigenous Programming
We are ready to step up to 10 hours of programming a week and want to get Sovereign to go national via the CRN (Community Radio Network). We want to send our awesome presenters to the Deadly Awards so they can be recognised for their work and want to firmly establish the program as a hub for local indigenous artists and kids interested in media.
Schools
We want to be able to develop programs for more schools in the ACT, to give a voice to young people excluded from mainstream media. We want to train students with skills in radio and new media and provide a forum for school-aged musicians to have their music broadcast.
Community Outreach
We have established strong partnerships with Australian National University Student Media and we open our doors to Canberra Institute of Technology students so they can learn about radio first hand. We’ve teamed up with Scissors Paper Pen, a literary collective supporting writers, readers, thinkers, makers and speakers in Canberra, but with your help we can reach out further and form partnerships with other arts and community organisations in the ACT, strengthening our network and creating more opportunities.
Multicultural
2XX FM has a whopping 16 different languages on air including new migrant communities Hazara and Tibetan. We are not just talking the talk, we are actively providing a voice to those who would never get a look in mainstream media.
We want to develop programs for other new recently settled groups and solidify this connection and support the community by restoring our presence at the Canberra Multicultural Festival.
Securing Our Future
We at 2XX FM are committed to stepping it up, taking our station forward and having the resources to keep it that way. We want to engage the community and firmly enshrine ourselves in the community.
We know we can do it. We have all the ideas, we have an awesome track record, now all we need is you.

*Please note: In relation to rewards, a subscription to 2XX FM is an annual subscription and lasts for 12 months except in the case of the Lifetime subscription which does not expire.
