Backyard Theatre Collective

Boys Taste Better with Nutella is an award-winning comedy that uses hazelnut spread to explore the best (and worst) moments of relationships. Presented by Backyard Theatre Collective, it is showing at Lazy Susan's Comedy Den as part of FRINGE WORLD Festival 2019 in Perth.

Boys Taste Better with Nutella is being funded by Creative Partnerships Australia through MATCH Lab. MATCH Lab is a matched funding program for independent artists and groups. They will support the project by matching the amount raised during the crowdfunding dollar-for-dollar! Backyard Theatre Collective are asking for your support in raising our initial target of $4000 (which MATCH Lab will double to $8000) to help pay for the creative development, flights, accommodation, production costs as well as jars and jars and jars of Nutella. Our stretch goal is $6,600 (which MATCH Lab will double up to the target of $13,200) and that extra money will help fund future national and (possibly) international touring.

Who are Backyard Theatre Collective?

Backyard Theatre Collective is a company focused on providing opportunities for talented individuals to team up and make great art. We feel this is possible when the collective is diverse and everyone feels that they belong. This balance and belonging needs to include directors, writers, performers, producers, marketing and technical production. For Boys Taste Better with Nutella our team includes female, queer, Asian, emerging and mid-career artists. Peter Wood is an Australasian actor, dancer and performance-maker, and creates work that focuses on LGBTQ+ issues with Asian-Australian influences. Caitlin Hill is a theatre, television and film actor, and one of Australia's first YouTubers. Her work focuses on themes of equality and empowering women, inspired by spending too much time on Tumblr. Kristen Maloney is a director, writer and producer and is completing her PhD at the Queensland University of Technology. 

Being involved in MATCH Lab is hugely significant for all the artists involved in the collective as often our work is unpaid and financially stressful. By supporting Boys Taste Better with Nutella, you will help:

1.  Increase representation in the performing arts;
2.  Help Queensland talent shine at the third largest Fringe Festival in the world.

SYNOPSIS

Aggy and Frederick may be self-loathing, socially anxious and addicted to food, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. With Aggy once again falling for the wrong guy and Frederick's most fulfilling connection being with his internet provider, they begin to review the best (and worst) moments of their past relationships. Using hilarious observations, kitsch dance moves and hazelnut spread, Boys Taste Better with Nutella explores coming of age, relationships and the folds in time.
