Deluge is a new play by Adelaide artists that will appear in the 2016 Adelaide Festival of Arts, presented by Tiny Bricks in partnership with Brink Productions and featuring 14 young, emerging Adelaide theatre artists. It will be performed at Plant One warehouse in Bowden from March 8-13

For more information, you can visit the Adelaide Festival website.

Deluge is a theatrical experiment that will see five plays running at the same time in the same space, exploring the ways we are affected by our lives of information overload. The audience’s attention will be torn between each of the ten actors on stage in rapid succession, as the five plays race to unite in a symphonic conclusion.

To learn about the process of how this play was made, visit our website.

We are so excited to be presenting the work of local emerging theatre makers in an international festival, alongside some of the world’s most celebrated artists and companies.

The artists involved in Deluge include . . .

- Elizabeth Gadsby (Designer)
- Chris Petridis (Lighting)
- Will Spartalis (Sound)
- Alex Woollatt (Actor)
- Andrew Thomas (Actor)
- Antoine Jelk (Actor)
- Ashton Malcolm (Actor)

How The Funds Will Be Used

This is a big show, and whilst there are many other areas to be covered, we need this Pozible funding to turn a warehouse in the middle of an Adelaide summer into an audience-friendly theatre venue. The money we raise will contribute towards;

- installing the set
- Hiring and installing seating, lighting and sound equipment
- Portable toilet hire
- Security
- installing industrial air conditioning so the audience don’t overheat.
- Setting up the foyer bar so our audience can enjoy a drink after the show.

The Challenges

The biggest challenge is producing a work by emerging artists of this size in an international arts festival. Not only in scale of the production, or converting a warehouse to a theatre, but also in working with so many artists. To help with this, we’ve received mentorship from leading industry members, including:
Andrew Bovell: Playwright
Chris Drummond: Artistic Director of Brink Productions
Karen Wilson: General Manager of Brink Productions
Rob Brookman: Executive Director / Producer of the State Theatre Company of South Australia.
Guy Ross: Development Manager of STCSA
Julian Meyrick: Dramaturg and Strategic Professor of Creative Arts at Flinders University

Another challenge is sourcing funding so that we can pay our 14 local and 1 interstate artists according to professional industry standards and ensure that the production values of this show are of the highest possible quality. Alongside Pozible and financial contributions from our presenting partners, we are also sourcing funding from grant bodies, sponsorship, matched funding and philanthropy.

The other major challenge that we face is marketing: selling tickets for this new work by a new local company during the peak of the Adelaide Festival season. We have brought on board experienced marketing consultant Jennifer Greer-Holmes, who has made a comprehensive marketing plan for us. Together with our own efforts, Brink and Adelaide Festival of Arts will help us to implement this plan to ensure the greatest reach possible.
