Charm of Finches

Hello this is Mabel and Ivy from Charm of Finches.

We’re a sister duo from Melbourne and we’re about to release our second full length album, YOUR COMPANY. 

Since the ages of 14 and 11 we have been recording music, playing at folk festivals throughout Australia (including National Folk Fetsival, Woodford, Port Fairy, Queenscliff, Cygnet and  more) and touring Australia playing city and regional shows. We released our debut album "Staring at the Starry Ceiling" in 2016, produced by Nick Huggins, and now we have another one ready to fly!

We started this new album more than a year ago when we recorded our single THE BRIDGE with producer Nick Huggins in his studio in the seaside town of Point Lonsdale, Victoria. (The Bridge made it to #2 on the national AMRAP/Airit regional charts and won the 2018 Blues & Rooots Radio International Song Contest for the duo category.) 

Since then we’ve been gradually co-producing this bundle of 11 songs. As with our last album, we have arranged for and played every instrument on the album including cello, violin, banjo, guitar and piano - the exception is Melbourne's Dan Witton (Bush Gothic) playing double bass on one of the tracks, and a special co-written track and guest vocals/trumpet by Cian Bennett (The Sunken Sea).

We have funded the recording from our band savings, from all the festivals and shows we have played.

This has been a huge project for us and it holds a collection of songs written over the course of about 3 years.

Many of the songs came out of quite a difficult time in our lives when Ivy's best friend passed away at the age of 14. 

Songwriting was a way for her to express and process her feelings of grief and at the same time create something beautiful out of it.

What ties all the songs together on this album is the idea of missing the people that you love, the process of grieving, be it a departed loved one, a relationship or the process of moving thorugh life's phases.

We hope we have transformed this melancholia into a beautiful body of work.

Music has the power to transform and elevate us and we hope the album does the same for you in some way. 

We’re really proud of what we’ve made and we can’t wait to share it with you!

Now we are at the final stage where we need to pay for mixing, get the album mastered by Sam John of Precise Mastering in Scotland, pay for graphic design and manufacture CDs,  and we would greatly appreciate your help!  Anything else over our target we will put to use paying for marketing for our launch and tour.

Primarily this is a pre-order of the ALBUM, either as a digital download or physical CD, or a TOTE BAG with a hand-drawn design by Mabel.. 

If you live in or around 2 hours outside Melbourne you may want us to come to your house and play a HOUSE CONCERT for you and your friends. 

We can also offer one-on-one SONGWRITING LESSONS from Mabel (1.5 hr duration - Melbourne), who has been teaching kids and teens for over a year now.

You may like to choose a song and we will RECORD A COVER of it and send you the MP3 or we will come and give your class, friends or workplace a SINGING WORKSHOP (again only in Melbourne) - in one hour and a half hours you will be singing in harmony!
