My name is Dino Dimitriadis and I'd like to invite you to play a special role in bringing Mary Rachel Brown’s extraordinary play 'The Dapto Chaser' to Griffin Theatre’s Independent Season this July.

Set in the controversial world of dog racing, this high-octane warts-and-all comedy pits family loyalty against the crippling effects of gambling addiction. The characters in this play posses all the colour and quirk of the greyhound racing sub-culture. They are riddled with comic contradictions that represent extremes of foolishness and bravery. 'The Dapto Chaser' is the story of a family forced to gamble the most important commodity of all, their relationship to each other. And here is the kicker: we have an amazing team of creatives including multi-award-winning playwright Mary Rachel Brown and comedy legend Glynn Nicholas in the director’s seat. The cast includes the star of ABC’s Moody Christmas Danny Adcock and theatre veterans Jamie Oxenbould, Richard Sydenham and Noel Hodda. 


We have committed to paying our artists an up front fee. As a company, Apocalypse Theatre is working hard to move away from the traditional independent model, where actors, if lucky, get a profit share at the end of the run. It's not fair on the actors who will dedicate hours and hours of rehearsal time not to be paid. It’s also unsustainable in our industry.

I'm asking you to join me in placing the people who make theatre possible - the artists - at the centre of the budget. Mary and I are working tirelessly to raise over half the money we need through other means and we’re asking you to help us raise the difference.

Artists in the Independent sector are very rarely compensated for their time and talent. We're turning to our community to get behind Australian artists. For everyone on our team, this is a project very close to our hearts and we hope you'll help us get this great Australian underdog across the line.

Great Rewards

Every cent of your support will pay the artists. This campaign is about the people who make theatre happen.

We’ve cut any unnecessary costs out of our budgets.  Artist Fees are the largest expense on our budget and we’re wholeheartedly committed to that.

We are thrilled to have the support of Griffin Theatre company, who are providing us with free venue hire and marketing support. Apocalypse Theatre Company is responsible for covering all other associated costs with the herculean task of mounting an independent production. We have no government funding but are committed to paying our actors. They are all highly experienced mid career actors that have families to support. They deserve to be paid for their time, effort and commitment to the independent theatre sector.
