A New Home for our Chickens
Founded in 1994, Perth City Farm is a non-profit community environmental centre in East Perth, Western Australia. City Farm is open to the public six days a week and attracts 160,000 visitors annually. We use the site to deliver programming that builds community connections and educates and enables people to live sustainable lives, including operating a market garden, plant nursery and recycling centre.
We care for a flock of 15 chickens – and a couple of ducks – who currently live at the back of the site, near the train line. It’s a noisy, hot spot which is not very accessible for our visitors and educational site tours.
With your help, we want to build our chickens a comfortable and stylish new home, in a location which will be safer and more accessible for the public, and better integrated with the rest of the farm.

Benefits of the New Setup
Our beloved chickens are going to relish this move! Their enclosure will be designed so the chickens can run out into our food forest and our soil centre, where we make our compost. They can enjoy engaging in natural bugging and scratching behaviours and help us with our Integrated Pest Management. Their home will feature artistic elements that will make it a great centrepiece for the farm.
The chickens’ new home will be a happy and comfortable place for them, and an educational asset for the thousands of visitors we receive each year.

Stretch Goals
It’s Perth City Farm’s 25th birthday this year!
If the campaign reaches its stretch target we’ve got some additional projects in mind, to make the site more beautiful, accessible and useful to our local community, in time for our birthday celebrations in September.
Stay tuned for more details of these projects!
