What is FocalVocal?

FocalVocal is an Advanced Diploma Final Year Exhibition of the 2024 final year Advanced Diploma students from Photography Studies College (PSC) in South Melbourne. The show kicks off at the Yarra Sculpture Gallery in Abbotsford on the 30th of November with the exhibition open to the public until Sunday 15th of December 2024.

As part of our final assessment, after 4 long years of study (even longer for some...), we are required to produce a body of work. We are excited to be showing it all at our very own exhibition. Each one of us has a different story to tell but we are all dedicated to creating heartfelt works of art. Though we are excited to make them available for you and the general public to purchase, we’ll be honest we are also a little nervous.

But this is it, the crowning achievement of our years at PSC, an occasion to share our work and celebrate our accomplishments. After all, what is the point of making Art if it's not shared?

Who are we?

We are a small, eclectic group of passionate and creative photography students, in the Final Year of the Advanced Diploma Course at Photography Studies College in Southbank, Melbourne. All from diverse backgrounds with a wealth of life experiences under our collective belts.

As part of our final assessment, and after many hours of blood, sweat and (lots of) tears, this exhibition will showcase each student's unique story whilst providing an occasion to share our work and to celebrate our accomplishments.

How much do we need?

Our goal is $4,000, but we actually need $5,000 for the FocalVocal exhibition. This covers gallery rental, lighting, and drinks for the opening. Any extra funds will be used for next year's Final Exhibition.

What if we don't meet our target?

If we don’t reach our goal, nothing happens. We might be left in the cold, holding our artwork and feeling down.

Depending on your pledge, you could get special prints, or a mention in our media release. You'll also be invited to our Exhibition Opening with great food and drinks!

The Challenges

Organising an exhibition takes money, time, and effort. Our main cost is the gallery rental for three weeks, plus extras - advertising, invitations, and refreshments.

We expect at least $4,000 from this campaign, though $5,000 is ideal, to make FocalVocal a standout event. This budget doesn’t cover printing and framing, which we’ll cover ourselves.

All print related rewards will be ready in December and you'll be contacted closer to the date.

All prints will be professionally printed on archival paper and will be safely wrapped, packed and delivered right to your door. (Free delivery within Australia). We also offer pick-up from PSC in Southbank.
