We are the Empire Coffee Co.
A coffee shop that started in a small space but quickly discovered that Empire's tend to expand.
After two months of trading from Monday to Friday and in our first and last Saturday opening, we didn't just expand, but we spilled out the front door, streets on both sides of our corner, and it became quite the spectacle.
I guess things like that will happen when you organise a string quartet to play the Imperial March and have them surrounded by stormtroopers and Darth Vader.
Thanks to Richard Bartlett for getting this great shot.

We knew we couldn't stay there, because our customers needed a place to come in and not just get a quality brew, but also a place to sit and relax (when we aren't hosting spectacles or epic events).
Update: Lego Mixel Building Contest
Earlier in the day of our Imperial Extravaganza (exact time to be announced, but some time after 1pm) we are going to hold a Lego Building Contest. But it will have a twist!
$10 gets you a buy in at the table, and we expect the competition to be stiff! This isn't for young kids or the faint at heart, it will be as much as a challenge for oneself, their patience, their sanity, as it is against the others around the table.
Each contestant will be given a Mixel, and inside that polybag is ANOTHER plastic bag. A clear one. And it is not to be opened!
The contest must build the Mixel while all the pieces are still INSIDE the bag!
This has been done. There is a photo for proof! Our resident Lego stormtrooper found it both frustrating, yet exhilarating. But he wasn't up against others in a race to finish.

There will be a prize for the winner.
Message us via the Facebook Page if you want to be a part of this.
Not long now!
The ID bracelets have landed. When you arrive you'll be issued with it and your name ticked off the list. Wear it for unlimited coffees for the next four hours!

This crowd funding pitch is as simple as the amount that we are aiming for.
A $5 pledge gets you into a special event that we will be hosting at our new venue which is in the Newcastle CBD. The event will go for 3 hours, and you can drink all the coffee our palpitating heart desires.
6 people pledging sees us hitting the $30 goal. $30 buys us a kilo of coffee beans. Which should be more than enough beans to keep 6 people caffeinated for 3 hours.
But we aren't limiting ourselves to just $30 and 6 people. The more pledges, the more people, the more coffee!
Last time our goal was a little too high, and as such, we were unable to collect any of the money. This time we've decided to make it ridiculously low, to show that we just want to have fun.
Our grand opening will be on Saturday the 31st October, kicking off at 7pm. It's Halloween, and we don't care how people feel about the "American tradition" we just see it as another excuse to get dressed up! Forget "trick or treating", this is "coffee and cosplaying"!

Not limited to just Star Wars characters, we'll gladly accept Trekkies, Whovians, Browncoats... whatever your sci fi leaning. Hogwarts, Game of Thrones, Hobbits, Elves or Dwarves... whatever your fantasy or fetish. Disney, Dreamworks, Superheroes... Marvel or DC, if you need an excuse to get your geek on, this is it!
Open to all ages. Bring the kids if you have them, bring your friends if you don't!
The exact location is yet to be revealed. Those that pledge will be the first to find out.

"Buy" one "ticket" ($5 pledge) for each person that will be coming. ID bracelets will be given to those on the list, so they can get their coffee and free unlimited refills. There will be hot chocolates for the kids, if you don't want them bouncing off the walls or buzzing when you get home.
No refunds for no shows. Any extra money raised will be used to make some improvements to our new venue, such as USB points for people to use to charge their phones. As we will be covering the cost of the milk (and milk substitutes) feel free to pledge over and beyond because every little bit will help.
