Hey folks!
For those who don’t know me, my name is Harrison and I am a musician from Melbourne, Australia who has crafted a collection of songs over the past few years that are now ready to be shared with the world - but I need your help!
Origins
The story of this EP began three years ago when my long-time musical comrade Bryn Wells and I combined forces (and studio gear) to build a small home studio in St Kilda, Melbourne. Tinkering and experimenting turned into the foundations of my first EP as an independent solo artist.
In the years prior, I collaborated in performing and composing with bands and artists and was incredibly excited to work on songs that I had composed myself and that are very personal to me.
I took the foundations Bryn and I had built to another musical wizard, Harley Stewart at Fight Night Records, to continue working on them. Over the past year and a half there we have created something that we are very proud of and that I am so excited to share with you.
Along the way I have worked with some of the most wonderful, passionate and talented musicians, artists, engineers and photographers in and outside of the studio including: Bryn Wells, Harley Stewart, James Jablonka, Pia Morley, Sophie Sun, Courtney King, Josh Barber, Adam Dempsey, James Matuszek, Sam Lawrence, Philip Roland Jones and Mauro Merjer-Palma. You have all helped to fulfil this dream of mine.
The incedible painting you see at the top of this page is the work of Melbourne based artist Sophie Sun. Every time I had seen a piece of Sophie's work it has resonated with me so much that I had to ask her to create the cover artwork for this EP. I am excited to release these sounds and colours side by side.
You can find more of Sophie's work here: https://www.thesojournartist.com/
The five songs on this EP have evolved over time but have maintained a theme of sorts. All touch on the wonders of love, awe of the natural world and a deep fascination with this human experience of life.
Best experienced rather than described, you can listen to the EP single titled ‘Step Outside’ right here! : https://harrisonrking.bandcamp.com/track/step-outside
Or on any other streaming platform (Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, YouTube etc.)
This song is about stepping outside our minds and identities, and into the direct experience of the present moment, forgetting notions of unworthiness and allowing love to keep us afloat through life.
The video you see was a recording done with Fraser and Nick at the Aviary. It is a stripped back version of 'Stranger', another song that will be featured on the EP. Have a listen and tell me what you feel!
How can you help?
I am reaching out to ask for your help to finally make this record a reality.
I have created this EP as an entirely independent artist. This means everything has either been paid for out of my own pocket working as a performing musician, music teacher, landscaper, labourer and urban farmer or from loans from generous friends and loving family who have had faith in my work. It has also been a long learning experience, undersanding the process of creating an album and overcoming creative hurdles.
Through wonderful experiences such as having strangers praise my music, or friends' demand to know when more is coming, I have realised that the music I create resonates with many people who are willing to help bring more art into the world and each other's lives.
So here I go! I am trying to crowdfund $2000 in order to complete this EP.
Budget Overview
How will this money be used to accomplish my goal?
All monies raised will be used for the following:
STUDIO COSTS
Harley Stewart has been kind enough to help produce, record and bring alive these songs at Fight Night Records in Abbotsford, Melbourne. Having great faith in what we have created he has graciously given some of that time in lieu. I need help to finish the last tracks!MASTERING
Mastering is a mysterious but very important last process of production. I have been lucky enough to work with Adam Dempsey who has done wonderful work mastering, as you can hear on ‘Step Outside’. Time to get the last few songs mastered and get them all tied together sonically.
How much should I contribute?
Any contribution is greatly appreciated!
If you feel that $2 is what you can contribute then please do! I know that sometimes it seems like offering a small amount doesn’t go far, but I assure you, it does! An ocean is made of many drops. Pozible is an ALL OR NOTHING crowdfund platform. This means that I must reach my target in order to be successful, so your support most certainly counts.
What am I offering in return for your support?
I want to give you this labour of love in its final form so that you may enjoy it for free, anytime, anywhere, forever!
To anyone that donates, the EP will be available to you on any digital platform (Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music etc) as well as available as a high quality download from Bandcamp.
Those who donate $60 or more can choose a song for me to cover and I will share my rendition as a video with a personal thank you!
(I am excited to see what people come up with. This may come back to bite me)
When will you hear it?
Most of this project has been completed! I am in the final stages of recording and mastering the last tracks, completing the graphic design and getting it all ready for release. I just need your help to get it over the line!
Accountability is a great thing, and I am excited to have you working with me to finish this. I will be providing regular updates to you on the progress of the EP up to the release date.
I am glad to announce that with your help, this EP will be released in it's entirety on the 25th of July, 2020.
Thank you for your support! You'll be listening to the EP soon
You'll be listening to the EP soon on your favourite digital platform (Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music etc..)
