Help Bring Poetry into the Mainstream!

INTRODUCTION:

G'day. I am James. Bendigo based Poet and community/internet radio broadcaster on www.phoenixfm.org.au.

I have been invited to attend the Fermory international Poetry Festival, in county Cork, Ireland.

And I need your help in getting there…I’m going on an adventure do you want to help me go through with it?
With your help I am going on an adventure to learn about Irish Poetry, stories from all over the world. And I will share the Australian story with the world. Help me get to Ireland and you can follow me on Facebook, on Twitter and my live video diary on YouTube, see the sights, hear the sounds experience the magic and mystique of the Emerald isle.

I will be writing a book about the entire experience. The book will be called Gathering by the Blackwater. it will consist of travel memoirs, essays and interviews on different forms of poetry and on the poets who attend the festival, and of course brand new poems about the entire trip, experience, by yours truly.

As you can see from my plans this entire experience—adventure—this once in a lifetime opportunity is going to be totally interactive. Follow me while I am travelling over the oceans, exciting foreign lands—sleeping on chairs in airport lounges, busking on the streets, sitting in the back of a magical mystery tour bus, around county Cork. Follow me into fame and knowledge of a sacred and majestic world of history, art, friendship and poetry.

Why is Poetry important?

Poetry is not just a guy or girl on stage fresh out of rehab venting a spleen in a dimly lit bar on a microphone…Poetry is the music of language.

Poetry is the history, the beauty, the soul of a culture and I want to share the Aussie soul/spirit with the world.

Fermoy is by the river Blackwater in county Cork, Republic of Ireland.

The reason why I was selected for this amazing opportunity, was because for several years now I have been a fairly active member of the Elbow Lane Poetry group on Facebook, run from Fermoy, Cork...Elbow Lane Inn has a long and proud of history of poetry and literary achievements.

Last year I was one of only two Australian poets who were short listed for the Fermoy International Poetry Prize, and I narrowly missed out on being flown there as part of the prize. This year I was specifically invited.

I have been a poet for almost ten years I have a double honours degree and several international publications to my name. Appeared on TV and Radio many times in Australia and Victoria, on the internet and on UK radio in 2012.

Brief Breakdown of the budget and why I am asking for this amount:

Promotional Expenses:

Video and Editing Cost for Poetry video for online crowd-funding and youtube exposure:$300-$500 AUD.
Equipment Maintenance:
Camera/Laptop and MP3 Digital Recorder : $300
Paying for sponsered Featured Facebook and social-media exposure:$350

Estimated Living Expenses day-by-day Ireland:

$50-100 Euro per day $125.75 AUD

110-120 Euro for non-Abbeyville-non-festival accommodation:

Travel costs to Cork and to Dublin for academic research:

$500

Price for this flight plus tax according to travel agency is $2284 plus estimated insurance

At this time the actual itinerary of the Festival has not been finalised in Fermoy yet.

But, using last year’s festival as a guide, the rough day-by-day guide of the Festival and my trip there should be:

Morning meeting. Travelling from Fermoy to Limerick or Tipperary; perform at several pubs in the afternoon. Attend workshops

Three day accommodation after completion of Festival:

All budgeting and travel quotes taken from Jetset and Flight Centre are subject to change, due to stockmarket and traveling to Europe during their summer.

But to do this project properly as you can see from the above objectives I need to stay longer. in all certainly another 7-10 days would mean that the correct research and editing, interviewing etc is done.
